Nine ballots isn't sacks of ballots but the point stands. If you disregard ballots due to an imagined idea that because theoretically there may be some problems (which is true of all types of voting), that we shouldn't count a form of voting that many tens of millions of voters (likely predominantly from a party not in power) will use, then it's not a democratic process. I've highlighted why that is the intention and how it will likely be carried out. I find the case laid out the likely scenario for how this election will be eventually called.

There's a reason it's getting harder to votes by mail to even reach their destination, and I very much doubt by the timing that it's a noble one [Link]

Maybe, but it's like all those bent Labour wards they all seem to oppose ID for voting while multiple people have been found to vote multiple times

I 100% agree that there is for the most part the opportunity to vote for all. It's all data mining though really. Vastly more democrats look set to vote by post and therefore any preemptive shots or efforts to delegitimise those votes is the opposing parties order of the day. It will create a huge mess, but then that would likely be true regardless of the outcome.

It's partly an issue with ways to circumvent the democractic process (since I don't really believe that the systems in place were built to cope with this level of partisanship and animosity on both sides) but at the same time it's very short sighted (of democrats) to encourage people to vote by post considering they should've seen this coming. Post election, possibly a secure online system that has no involvement from private companies is the way to go. Politically the shoe will always eventually end up on the other foot, and so its in everyones interests to make sure that voting is both easy and secure.

I think it happened last year with students voting twice in our elections.

No doubt. There are cases of this kind of thing in all elections but it's important not to throw the baby...or election..out with the bathwater. Especially when its in the ruling parties interest to do so. Eventually that ruling party will always be one we personally don't like so the sensible approach is to put a structure in place that can survive whatever circus is passing through town that term.

We need to overall our voting system.

I am not a fan of postal voting or electronic and believe it should reduced. You should be made to attend and to provide photo Id.

I worked on elections for 20 years, person A could come in and pretend to be person B and probably get away with it although Id rules should stop that. If I wanted to fix an election that is a very inefficient way of doing it.

However with postal voting a person could intimidate or bribe large numbers of voters away from the scrutiny at the ballot box. This is what happens in Asian communities in the so called dodgy London boroughs.

Then there is the eligibility to vote. Some councils do not appear to work too hard to confirm that a voter is a UK citizen and entitled to vote so once on the roll they are safe. I suspect this applies to many people in the so called rotten boroughs who vote Labour.

Then there is the disconnect with students who can vote in 2 places and the chances of them being caught are slim.

Overall I think the process is fair and honest however in certain areas of the country it is not and it is shameful that the politicians and the Electoral service do not apply more stricter measures in those areas.

As I have mentioned in the past immigrants can easily be intimidated with the "We know where your family lives back home" they deserve to be protected and to vote for who they want not be told by the local "community leader".

I have no doubt this goes on the in USA as well Kennedy bought his election by the corrupt system in Chicago.

Sounds reasonable to me. At least with one regulated way to vote applying to all people, they know where they stand before election day and that they are to cast their vote a certain way and it counts like all others. That leaves far less scope for reframing the value of a vote based on the method its cast. Any differentials will be exploited by one party or another so we need to make that difficult to do.

Apparently this will be Trump's pick

[Link]

As the article states this nomination could tie the Democrats in knots. It may not be completed before the election but Trump will want her on the witness stand asap.

Unlike the previous nomination who was unfairly slaughtered by the Democrats and the Sisters they will have a problem.

- She's a woman.
It won't look good to use the personal attacks they did against Brett Kavanaugh who was fair game as he was male pale and stale. Woman voters will not like that and the feminists will look mean by demeaning one of their own unless of course all women are equal as long as they are on the left.My guess is that they will tone it right down.

- She's religious.
The voters don't like people being attacked for their personal beliefs the more they have a go the more votes Trump will win.

To sum up if the Democrats and their friends on the left go for her as viciously as they did Kavanaugh the votes for Trump will pile up. Their only hope is to delay the hearings full stop.

Kavanaugh wasn't attacked unfairly at all! He was a poor candidate, with a dubious past which needed to be examined. He appears to just be a Trump stooge who never utters a word of criticism of the man who gave him his job. No evidence of a great legal mind on show there.

Coney Barrett seems a class act. Principled and thoughtful. She might be a conservative but I suspect her loyalty will be to the constitution and the law and not to any pressure from the right. So she might well surprise people, just as John Roberts does.

The Dems won't attack her on a personal level. Why should they? They don't stoop that low. They will attack the process and the attempt to thwart the will of the people. What happens when we have a Dem POTUS and a Dem controlled House and Senate is the really interesting question. Will they expand the Court and risk that principal becoming established?
