Ah, you finally responded So that is the only source of your knowledge? Do you know the history of The Adam Smith Institute? One of the four least transparent think tanks in the UK for funding. The prophet of private profit. A 'right wing think tank' which was much favoured by Margaret Thatcher. I suggest you do some more research. Especially into Listeria deaths 260 deaths in the US per annum, an average of 7 in the UK. The US has a population 5 times the size of the UK. You do the math...
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Noe you have your glasses now try using them to read. The article I put a link to compared US to EU as it is EU regulations that stopped the import of US chlorine rinsed chickens until we leave the EU. The point here was that the decision was to protect EU chicken production. You go on about the UK numbers which may well be true, the Association you reference is a proper group working towards better quality food. Looking at the numbers as whole, the UK likely has better processes than the rest of the EU. Please evidence how many Listeria deaths in the USA you quote are due to ingestion of chlorine washed chicken. The UK number should be zero. Originally posted by Mapletree

Edited by HKOwen (22 Aug 2020 12.02am) But the point is WE are going to have to accept US meat and not the EU. So let’s make the correct comparison shall we. The US cannot provide the information you crave. It’s ability to track the provenance of food is not up to ours.

Just reading would be ok for now. This thread is rather going in circles now so my final comments are We cannot be forced to buy and consume anything whether it be US poultry or anything else. The provenance trail in the UK is very good for UK produced meat. The point I made is that the Listeria numbers you quote are not linked to chicken consumption. As a general point on the number of cases relevant but in a discussion on chicken not really relevant. Anyway, that's all from me on this you will be pleased to know. Originally posted by Mapletree

Edited by HKOwen (22 Aug 2020 12.58am) We can and will be forced to allow the importation of cheap, low quality meat, especially if we are on WTO terms. In the end people will buy it as it is cheap. It will become the standard in cooked foods very quickly. And ultimately it will become monopolistic and our choice will be gone, save for increasingly expensive specialist suppliers who have lost economies of scale. Brexiteers purport to be anti globalisation in many cases, yet will make us increasingly dependent on untrustworthy producers goodness knows where.
