Cheers for this, Willo! The chap does not have a definitive answer. I believe there is a legal battle in progress and any points deductions might not come into force until next season. I have just perused this : Edited by Willo (27 Jul 2020 9.40am)

When do we all get to hear about Sheff Wed verdict? They are going around the houses, too frightened to have sorted it by the end of last season so any points deduction will commence next season.

Hang on, didn't we just learn a few weeks ago that should you break financial fair play rules then all you have to do is refuse to cooperate for 5 years until the powers that be can't prosecute you?

If Wednesday were deducted points this season Charlton would stay up. The Charlton board are considering legal action 3 problems with that: 1. The new season starts in 6 weeks so no time for a decision so even if they win which is doubtful it wont help. 2. The club has no money so is it a good use of what limited funds they do have? 3. The Charlton owners, which ones? Depending on who you talk to you will get a different answer. My guess this is just virtue signalling. To be fair the rules around selling the ground are dodgy to say the least. I believe that Wednesday were done not for the sale but for putting the proceeds into the wrong year of accounts and thus avoiding a fair play penalty which hasn't worked. The timing of the whole process stinks. They were charged in November but the Independent board didn't meet until June / July, why the delay?

Isn’t there a similar case being considered against Derby? The whole saga is a cock up by EFL, it’s as if they don’t want Wednesday out of the Championship but not bothered about small clubs like Wigan

As for Wigan well they went bust so a slightly different situation but I agree the EFL rules and how and when they apply penalties is a shambles which seems to favour the bigger clubs.

If Wigan were deducted points this season any other teams deducted points should also be with immediate effect. Does anybody else see the irony in being deducted points in a different season for having put financial reports in a different season?

Placed there by owners that had been given EFL approval just weeks beforehand. And if you consider the whole issue of Administration - who suffers ? The fans, the players, the debtors - while those responsible seem to walk away.

I have just been looking at the Charlton fan site they are up in arms over Sheffield Wednesday and other clubs who have not been punished this season or are still to be punished. There is an irony in their outrage that the EFL has done nothing this season, after all their club has had a transfer embargo since January and is on the naughty step since February over the sale / non sale of the club. If I was the EFL is would penalise Sheffield Wednesday this season and also Charlton.
