A great post, Badger, which pretty much sums up my story and hence my attitude. Apart from the Irish ancestry, as far as I'm aware. Look deeper, those feckers get everywhere. All over my family history with their diddle dee music they are.

Try telling that to my ancestors in Ireland. Bad stuff happens to everybody you have a choice sit in your own faeces wailing that life is unfair or dust yourself off and get on with it. Apart from a very few elite the rest of us have to work to get on in life. We have a good educational system if people choose not to avail themselves of that it is their choice. Even if you didn't get on in school the opportunities are still there afterwards you may never be a CEO of a blue chip company but I have met plenty of people who made a good life for them and their families through hard work. All four of my grandparents were Irish. And when I say Irish, I mean rural, schooled to the age of about 9 illiterate Irish. They had plenty of stories about the Black and Tans, being refused work/housing/entry to pubs and plenty of racism in general of course. Still had a picture of the queen in the house, cheered on England when the football was on, grafted arses off to make a living, set a foundation for their kids who themselves still had to work hard to get by and hey ho grandchildren are all professionals, proudly English whilst retaining our heritage living happy healthy lives. If it’s in your nature to b!tch and whine about your failure in life nothing will ever change for you.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

All I'll say is where was the outcry when these shows etc first came out?? As it's clearly impossible to judge yesterday by the standards of today anyone who attempts to do is foolish. That said deciding not to re-broadcast something because it might now cause offence is another matter unless there is a context which is explained. That's for the broadcasters to judge. My Mum was an awful racist. But that was 60 years ago and if she was alive today I would have expected her to have learned and changed. She wasn't a bad person at all. She was kind and loving, but also ignorant in the context of what we know now. Whilst most of us have managed to adjust our thinking and realised that whilst the mistakes of the past cannot be undone we can avoid making them again, there remains a hardcore element whose views seem much more akin to my Mum's in the 50s than mine today. Such a pity, especially when they are so clearly in denial of that. Such people can be found here. Not all, by any means, but what is sad is that the decent people don't call out the racists. You know they exist. Challenge them. This site has always been heavily overpopulated with people holding right-wing views, some of them extremely so, although they, of course, deny that. There have only ever been a handful of those who represent mainstream opinion and most of them have become tired of arguing with brick walls. It has though gone markedly downhill in recent weeks. Some of the posts have appalled me, but no-one picks them up. Even the moderator seems to have given up on you all. Reflect on that for a moment. So now that it is just an echo chamber of self-righteous hatred you won't be seeing much more of me. You carry on together and I will take comfort in knowing that you are a totally unrepresentative bunch of losers whose sole purpose seems to be to confirm each other's biases. I might dip in from time to time for amusement.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

The head teacher is ethnically Indian for most BLM supporters, she is nowhere near black enough to have a valid opinion on race especially when it is in anyway critical Originally posted by NorthYorkshireEagle
Everybody has a choice - no matter what!!!
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
