Simple fact is there are more cars on the road today than ever before and more kids get lifts all over the place than ever before. Easy to see with your own eyes so i wont bother arguing any more on that. Pretty sure the rhetoric from this conference has been about not taking action now, not blaming the past.

Sure, but you’re talking about a generation of people - you’re always going to have some within it who don’t care. I don’t have the numbers, but I’d be very confident that recycling per person or household is up massively since ‘back in the days’ - but your perception is that a generation who recycled less “recycled and reused everything”, whereas those who recycle more don’t - that’s kind of what I’m getting at. I also mentioned before Matov about how many will give up flying and travelling the world, give up on new technology, keep a second hand phone for 10 years, a PlayStation 2 forever when PlayStation 4,5,6,7,8,9 come out. Basically live in the past. But whenever I go out I’m seeing young people not giving a fook about their rubbish. A bit of a coincidence it’s every time I go out. Recycling at home, great, but it could be a lot better. Shoving shyte in the rubbish bin happens a lot.

So as I said, we have no idea how it compares - you’re happy to run with it because it fits your narrative, but it’s a point based on no evidence. You’ve clearly taken this ‘blame’ very personally - I haven’t seen anyone blaming individuals for climate change; the narrative is around action now.

All thus climate change nonsense. It was call climate warming and we got told to have water meters , then it's changed to climate change as we have just as much rain. As a kid I got told the Amazon was having 10 football pitches a minute cut down, guess what!!! My 11 year old son came home saying excactly the same thing 30 years later!! Even the river Thames froze over in Victorian days!!
People are getting rich ofn the back of all this! What about people in the fossil fuel industries ? You can't see their obvious incentive to deny climate change so they can continue to get rich ?

So you think unless you’re willing to keep a phone for 10 years or not buy a new games console you can’t have a view on climate change, or think that we should be doing more?

Because they threaten to fine us if we don't. With the irony being that we have more holes in the ground than we know what to do with and that using them as landfill actually offers a whole raft of benefits. Still lets all worship at the feet of a 16 year old girl because that is not creepy in the slightest. And lets listen more to young people. They are wise beyond their years. I’m concerned what these authorities threatening fines are doing with the recycling. It’s the packaging we really can do something about. The rest is a global issue I won’t hold my breath on but I’d accept any of it. I’d rather hedge my bets than deny climate change causes so not selfish like many.

If you cant see there is more traffic on the roads now than in the past and that more kids get lifts than in the past is not my problem.

Well yes, because the technology didn’t exist in the past - I don’t think that’s really a stick to beat them with. Any data on lifts to and from school? You don’t need any data to see the amount of cars at a school or speak to parents or people who live near one. Parents are being banned from driving near the schools now.

We have no idea how it compares with previous generations is the point; reduced traffic during school holidays is a long way from being a new thing. If the energy consumption is excessive, by all means have a go, but criticising them because they live in a more technologically advanced world is silly. Also, I think most on here are conflating two huge groups as one and the same; the real eco-warrior teenage types who follow Greta are not the kids you see driving to school in Croydon - the whole point in their movement is to make others care as much as them, and that’s within their own age group as well as outside of it. Blimey. Obtuse as it gets. The change in traffic is huge and obvious. Yes they have grown up in a technological age and a time when cars are more affordable (if you aren’t saving for a house). But noes their time to show the way. I expect no change because if it impacts lifestyles it never does.

If refusing to form opinions based on what I see at the gym or what Sandra at the local school tells me makes me obtuse, then so be it. I’d suggest the obtuse ones are the ones who tie themselves in knots rather than accept that this generation does something better than they did.
