Amazing how when it comes to abortion, they are all about preserving life and how do they do this? Shutting down all the clinics. I would argue that it's not the clinics that are responsible for the abortions, rather the mental state of the would be mothers. Why aren't they trying to solve the abortion 'problem' like they do with the guns. Oh wait, that's right, it's not a made up, out of date commandment, sorry, I mean constitutional right. This will be the end of politics the way we know it, because, the only thing these people care about is winning an election, the rest is purely a show.

You didn’t do either - you just called it crap and left it there; it would be a hell of a forum if everyone was quite so insightful. You made an illogical statement. Stirling posted the stats. How does producing related statistics that might explain the mindset of the killer justify murder? Because that is the crap you were suggesting.

When an incident like this has just happened, I think it’s fairly ill-advised to post a link like that with no commentary or explanation as to why - it can appear you are trying to support something which I obviously know Stirling does not; if that was not clear from the tone of my post then I apologise to him.

It’s not independent of what politicians say though, is it? It’s no coincedence that he decided to attack the ethnic group who are probably most often on the end of Trump’s remarks - didn’t he travel quite a way to ensure he hit a strongly Hispanic area specifically? I find it hard to accept that Trump’s rhetoric around Mexicans and Hispanics played no part in this guy reaching the point he did and targeting the demographic he did. Read the guy's own words.....it's replacement. Like I said, If politicians are reflecting their base's attitudes it isn't encouraging people to go out and murder. When that happens...the wheels have really come off. If a politician doesn't reflect their base that isn't democracy. Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Aug 2019 4.33pm)

I sincerely hope this isn’t an attempt to legitimise the motives of a terrorist, or to build sympathy with his cause. Come on! I'm against replacement certainly and I'm definitely against murdering people. It was in reply to a certain poster's attempt to suggest that replacement isn't real. I believe they should massively control guns in the states. It would have to be phased in relatively slowly. To appease the gun lobby I reckon a law which allowed gun clubs and the safe storage of licensed weapons would be necessary. There would then still be the right to own weapons but they wouldn't be in the streets. There would be gun crime still and these shootings can never be fully eliminated but at least the circulation of weapons would be drastically reduced.

People who want to commit appalling crimes will always find a justification. In the past we've had cases in the US such as: TV made me do it Trump is a bully and just the latest excuse. The real issue here is why the self serving politicians are not banning guns or at the very least bringing in stricter control. Trump is pro gun but I suspect this is not idealogical with him it is where he sees the votes he could go the other way. Obama said the right things but still nothing happened. The public should save their anger for those that block gun reform. Get rid of the senators and representatives who are pro gun lobby and the President(s) will act if they think they can get legislation through.

I'm also against the idea of guns being owned easily by the private citizen. However, that's if you were starting with a clean slate.....But we aren't just starting America....So it's a whole new ball game. Getting rid of guns in America would be a bloodbath....perhaps even a type of civil war.....there are more guns in the country than people....Many people...to varying degrees connect their guns with independence from the state. You have to understand the extent of the division within American society on this issue.....it's a gun culture. Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Aug 2019 4.27pm)

Yup I agree with your comments, I just get iritated by the politicians. Trump will deflect because he is pro gun. What's the excuse of his opponents? They would rather call Trump a racist and blame him rather than do something about gun control. The NRA has congress in a headlock and not enough of the politicians are brave enough to take them on. So they skirt around the issue and and go for easier targets whilst wringing their hands. In Obama's 2nd term he could have campaigned for gun control he may not have got the votes but he could have left a legacy for others to build on. He could have built an anti gun movement to rival the NRA. Instead all we got was sympathetic words and candle lit vigils.

I think when America goes full on Democrat in both houses then I can see them going for strong gun controls....because the Republicans just aren't getting back in again due to demographics. Even with the terrible candidates like the Democrats have....most of whom are talking far left politics....the demographics still make it hard for Trump to win in 2020. Personally I think it's 50/50 for the Republicans in 2020 and zero chance after that.

Let me quote your post if I must. 'I sincerely hope this isn’t an attempt to legitimise the motives of a terrorist, or to build sympathy with his cause'.
