Three friendlies 3 defeats no goals - doesn't take a genius to realise we need a goal scorer ASAP.

Some on here have taken the view that the AWB deal is a good deal because it would enable enable the club to reinvest the £45 million plus and strengthen the attack.

I think that you are manipulating what has been said to suit your agenda. Most people have said that selling AWB was a good deal at that price but only if the money was re-invested wisely and that is where many of us have had reservations Originally posted by PatrickA
why are we contemplating selling Zaha, and why are we letting Luka enter into the final year without signing him up? Both questions have been discussed at length in their relevant threads so we have no need to repeat ourselves here

The central point I was making is that the club’s key aim at the end of the season was to ensure that the existing squad was retained for this season. I'm sure that the club had no intention of selling AWB until Manchester United offered a lot of money (something that this club seems short of) turning the player's head in the process. If you were a 20 year old footballer playing for perpetual strugglers in a crumbling stadium and one of the largest and most famous clubs in the world came looking for you and offering eight times your existing wages in the process - wouldn't you clamour to leave? No club can really hang on to players that wants to go

Yep, as far as we’re aware, unless the US shareholders have sold half our team without us knowing to explain the losses this pre season then we’ve only sold one player. A right back that we are in the process of filling. The Luka situation is not as simple as ‘letting it happen/drift.’ Luka will know his value and what is out there vs what’s happening at Palace due to wages, finances, ownership and uncertainty over Zaha and us relying on him till who knows when and how would we adapt when we do inevitably sell him. Luka May be waiting for certain things to happen before signing an extension. Otherwise we should be selling him now or January, only because our scouting is so p1ss poor usually we’ll have to keep him to then lose him for nothing because once again we probably won’t survive if we sell him. Further, we don’t know Luka’s wage expectations. What if it’s £100-£120k per week? We cannot afford that and will not be carrying on with that unless it’s for goal scorers. Maybe he wants what cabaye was on. What, £80k+. I don’t know but there’s a growing concern of a wage budget that is already far too high. If you were Luka would you sign an extension before the close of the transfer window? I know I wouldn’t. You’re unlikely to get injured and the quality of our squad next season is far from clear.

You make it sound like no-one wants to play for Palace. We are a mid table PL side positioned in London in the finest league in the world. There are an awful lot of players out there that would jump at the opportunity to join us, its just a shame our scouts are so poor that we only appear capable of unearthing gems like Jach and Sorloth. If Luka thinks he is worth £100k a week then lets see if someone will pay it on top of a transfer fee. He is good, he is our captain, but he is replaceable.

Haha, maybe we should come up with a new transfer policy where we just throw an open invitation to join Palace into the market place at £50k a week and so who applies. It can't be any worse than our current policy.
