perhaps i understand exactly how a forum works...

perhaps i want to understand how (for example) if people brought a VW they expect to have a say in how the company is run.

perhaps i just want to understand more about the people who want to pick fault in everything other people do when everybody is far from perfect...

I can understand people wanting to discuss the clubs actions, and of course there will be some things SP or DF have done which either at the time or with the gift of hindsight we might not all agree with, but the idea that anyone could actually be ‘anti’ Parish is so remarkable as to beggar belief.

Just glance for one moment at the long and growing list of clowns, crooks, attention-seekers and vultures who have run so many football clubs in this Country into the ground.

Some of them (Mark Goldberg anyone?) mean well but don’t know what they are doing. SP has taken a seriously failing business out of receivership and into the rudest of economic health.

Some use their clubs to line their own pockets at the expense of the clubs financial strength. Under SP we have broken our transfer record time and again, and put our balls on the line paying the proper market rate in wages. When we stop spending it’s because, as has been explained time and again by SP, FFP restricts us.

Some arrive in a blaze of (self) publicity and promise the earth before realising that actually it’s not that easy and slinking away back where they came from, becoming absentee owners with a puppet administration on the ground. SP is at reserve and youth games, lives and breathes CPFC every day. He has worked hard to get the academy up to scratch, to own our own training ground again, to build a new stand. This is the kind of long term legacy of a man who cares. The short-term owner doesn’t make this kind of investment, he just blows all the money on mercenary players until it all burns out, then shrugs his shoulders while the club implodes (Portsmouth, Leeds etc).

Finally, and most mind-bogglingly of all, the anti-Parish brigade do actually know that we are living in the golden age of Crystal Palace? I mean what exactly have you not enjoyed about leaving administration, getting promoted, staying up for the longest period in our history, beating Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea etc and reaching a cup final?

Amazing.

It’s nothing to do with reporting over £30 mil of losses per year over 2 years then.

Parish has made some good calls when required like:

The Bristol City car park chat with DF when Parish had a good idea Zaha would be gone to plug the £5 mil annual losses at the time, against DF’s wishes actually.

Hiring Holloway, Pulis, Allardyce, Roy, even Pardew, when each were perfect at that present time, even if all but Roy were so obvious even to rugby fans, and immediately available, with a dollop of dithering in between.

Signing Zaha against Pulis’s wishes, which is a big reason we’re still here, but we have to manage without him at some point so it’s either with money or later without.

But the jury is still out quite a bit considering we’ve remained here largely because of spending sums we shouldn’t be or can’t, because the setup is wrong, former players are hired as yes men and he’s been correcting the mistakes and the taking chances with lack of cover in certain positions to the point we become a joke.

We’ve been operating like a club with a 35,000 following and the investment of the US shareholders has been a little pointless, possibly holding us back and being part of the issue with their wish to sign expensively and then pull the plug.

What happens after this part of our Prem cycle of spend and now conserve? Well that is quite the time to see how we come through it, what life is like after Zaha has gone and we’ve used the Zaha and AWB’s transfer money, and after repaying the US investors which will again show them to be just a stop gap and nothing more.

I look forward to a boring season of hopefully survival, as safe as possible, while I cross my fingers like Parish is for a saviour to buy them all out because without that our future isn’t that marvellous because of the desperate spending to remain here.

It’s sure not easy but I don’t buy into this master stroke stuff considering how it’s been done. Time to get it all sorted out and under control. Can he and they do it? We’ll see.

Or I suppose you could say he gambled a bit on an expensive core of players and risked it a bit without the kind of cover a Prem team needs. Whatever, it’s how we come through these testing times that taking a while because of how we’ve operated, or not behind the scenes.
