PVA is a poor, poor defender. If he was in there today it might have even different as Wardy made an exceptional headed clearance in the first half. Ward is stronger and has much better positional sense at left back even though he is a right back. Aerially it’s night and day, PVA would rather join a ladies league than head the ball. Ward is slightly inferior coming forward but PVA hasn’t exactly been Cafu this year either. Get PVA out of there and cash in, play Ward with Schlupp and a new young 3rd option in the mix as cover.

I must admit I find his unwillingness to tackle and in particular head the ball very frustrating. His passing this season has been atrocious. He was good last year but has he a bad season that’s for sure. Because he hasn’t torn up any trees going forward it’s been highlighted a bit more.
