Be careful about approaching dogs at polling stations.

They are probably Russians.

Also check side streets for black Zughlis.

Do not give your polling card to anyone calling himself Ivan or Svetlana.

At the time, I was working in government and could see at first hand the Libs doing a decent job in coalition with the Tories.

That coalition government was perceived to be in the national interest to give the country stability after damaging effects of the banking crisis.

However, the Liberals paid a very high price in the subsequent election for going into that partnership.

Subsequently, there has been no such thing as "in the national interest". Self interest politics has completely overwhelmed common sense and produced weak government. Unfortunately, this country is suffering and the situation is likely to get much worse before any recovery.

I am not entirely sure the electorate understands the full consequences of how it votes but while it's essentially a two horse race I think we're in deep trouble.

Given the current choice ... I am not voting.

Good post, I think in countries where there is a regularly coalition government there is more acceptance of what a junior partner can do.

Haha. I have a certain level of respect for what amount to one issue parties really. The likes of UKIP and Greens at least have the ability to nudge the major parties one way or another depending on how people feel about said issue at the time. More than ever, politics is full of lies and weaseling out of things so it's a relief in a way to have parties whose policies are inextricably baked in.

And Conservatives being Conservative :-D.

It doesn't really work with non one issues parties, as they can always claim to have other priorities or just drift away from their purpose.

If you vote for the Brexit Party you know what you're going to get. Parties that have one issue at their core are at worst potentially a very useful protest vote, at a time where people feel that their votes for the main parties are worth f*** all.

My friend got re-elected in Somerset.

In 2011 a group of independent councillors persuaded the voters to kick out the party machine. They have since been re-elected twice although not the same people as the independents pledged to only serve 2 terms and they have kept their word. The council is 100% independent so I guess they must be doing something right.

This is my friend's 2nd term so she will not stand next time. She has already started the process of mentoring a potential successor, subject to voter approval of course.

I saw today a story about Hadleigh in Suffolk where people are trying to do the same thing

"Mr Allman said he thought Hadleigh Together was the first party of its kind in Suffolk.

He said it based its model on Independents for Frome, which gained a majority on the Somerset town's council in 2011 and has held all of the council's seats since May 2015."

Long may it continue local people concerned with local issues.

My Tory party knew that the result would be as some put it "disappointing" and it would "Be a difficult night" but the losses were greater than largely predicted with 40 councils lost and over 1,000 councillors nor re-elected.
My local council held 42 out of 54 seats yet they lost to 'No overall control'

Total and utter disaster.Theresa May said the message was "Just get on and deliver Brexit.".My message is that YOU have failed to deliver Brexit on account of a dastardly deal with the EU and scores of excellent councillors have lost their seats because of you.The sooner who get out of No 10 the better - these words will be echoed by thousands of Tory members and supporters around the country.

I am ashamed at my beloved party sinking to such depths.
