Smokers. Paying to kill yourselves because you can't admit to yourself that you are addicted.

Sad sad sad.

Do us and yourselves a favour. Man up and just give up for god sake.

I do think denial can develop. The 'I could get run over by a bus tomorrow' mentality. When your health tanks though the reality hits home.

Speaking as an ex heavy smoker it isn't as easy to give up as you might think and it took me many unsuccessful attempts before I finally managed it

Yes, I think it's getting hooked in the first place that really locked people in. They're then set on a path that takes years to get off.

In the US they hand out opioids like Smarties post surgery and it's having a similar effect but with much more serious drugs.

I smoked in my twenties but giving up is a matter of motivation.
If you decide it's happening then you must keep trying even if you fail several times. I ended up smoking the butts out of my car ashtray the first couple of times I tried.
When people say they don't want to give up, they are in denial about addiction.

I quit first time ironically after the first 3/4 days it was easy.
My tip if you are quitting is to stop around 4/5pm that way you only have to manage to go a few hours to bed.
When you wake up in the morning you have already gone 12+ hours without smoking enough time for your body to get rid of the nicotine. Then do the rest of the day in sections up to lunch then dinner by the time you reach dinner time you have 1 full day under your belt.....

Piecemeal bender

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

It is difficult, the most dangerous attitude that develops is "I've given up now, I can handle just one with a pint". I've done this 3 times lol, but have been off the fags for 18 months (I did manage 4 years!).

From experience cold turkey is the way: patches, e-cigs, gum didn't work for me, I just had to take the hit. I've got a mate who "gave up" by switching to Vap. That was 3 years ago and he's on it constantly. How's that giving up? Still addicted.

They say three days to shake off the addiction and three weeks to lose the habit.

I don't remember how many weeks it took me but I do know that if you are determined you will succeed.

I always told my kids that starting smoking was the worst decision they could ever make.

Not quite true maybe.

The act of smoking is a very gradual internal cremation. There should be at least a 5 to 10% discount upon death.

One in three adults around the world is a smoker. Is there a single one of over a billion people who actually enjoys it or are they all pathetic addicts?

I would imagine that a huge swathe of smokers are from the Far East, so called developing countries & Sub Continent.
I saw a report a while back that Smoking in the USA was down as low as 14%? Lets face it short of standing outside (& 20ft from the building) you're options are very limited.
Funnily enough I am in Korea Town most days & there appears to be an inordinate amount of smokers there.
