Lot of negative posts on here and what I believe to be fairly unsupported hypotheses... but here is my go at one. I don't buy in that Benteke is now useless. I will criticise him for a lack of movement (or running) but I believe he has shown consistently in the past that he has the ability to put the ball in the back of the net (not counting this season and last) however he has sustained a few injuries and IMO, just an opinion, he has been moulded into a 'target man' with responsibilities on the pitch beyond just being there to nod or tap it in, which combined with a lack of confidence/consistency has left him with poor form in front of goal. I also believe that we are now playing some of our highest quality football ever currently, however the philosophy and tactical intensity of our football seems to distract from the core basic of putting in the back of the net. We used to rely on being so heavily focused on counter attacking that it spawned a necessity to be clinical. Now we are seeing a more composed and cute style of play which creates plenty of chances and possession in the final 1/3 however lacks that excited penetration. Not privy to our training sessions as I do not go and watch them consistently, although I'd of thought that obvious (apparently not) but I do think style of football + lack of emphasis on core basic + SHEER BAD LUCK has equalled a despairing low goal tally.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

If we're not putting the ball on bentekes head on the 6 yard box, maybe he shoukd use his feet a bit more, or is that asking too much for a £30m pound player. Oh and he had a great ball in the chanel saturday and completely f****d it up... Please don't think I am making excuses for CB. I am probably as frustrated as you, but in a way I think you agree with me? He got one decent ball on saturday? so one in 60 minutes. And yes he took an unnecessary extra touch and narrowed the angle and gave the keeper a chance which he gratefully took. But you could also say that for the vast majority of those 211 shots CB wasn't even on the pitch because he was injured. As I see it the chances when they come are coming to the wrong people (ie the midfield and defenders) I am worried that even with Batshuayi it might be the same because the delivery is slow and inaccurate and he'll have defenders all over him. And because nobody appears to be able regularly to put in a corner or free kick that gives anybody a sniff. The one exception to that that I can think of was Schlupp's free Kick against Grimsby (I think it was him) which was decently placed and Ayew duly scored. Just the way I see it......
I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals. |

So our £30m player will only score if our wingers cross early and put the ball right on his head. Or our oponents defenders are in 'disarray'. The guy has totally lost confidence and IMHO will never get it back while playing for palace. Needs to go to a new club in the summer. No I think he’ll e cr@p here and should go, but that’s what he thrived on before. Good day, sir.

So how come we have scored more goals away than any other team outside the top 6?

I think our style of play results in a lot more missed chances, hitting teams on the break means we take a lot of "Think fast" shots...and I think because early in the season we wern't creating that much, people are still snatching at shots..doesn't excuse some of the misses we have pulled off and yes it is frustrating as hell but lets be realistic, its our only meaningful weakness now.
