Got to say, AWB is f***ing excellent in this regards.

To be doing it successfully in this league, at the pace they play, against the best players in the world...

It will be absolutely criminal if he doesn't get blooded for England by the end of the season.

The way he wraps his long legs around some of his tackles is unreal and we have been comparing him to Doris since his debut.

Southgate had no hesitation in giving Alexander-Arnold his england debut, but at the moment AWB has the handicap of playing for Palace, which as we all know doesn’t bode well for his chances of getting a full cap

Struggling to think of a better player than AWB in any position. A few who were equally good - Wright and Lombardo for example but I'm not sure they were better.

AWB will get even better over the next couple of seasons which is scary.

Aye right enough AWB is a talented young man. Our John Sewell was our captain, as you say he played the game and life in the right spirit. A Enerst Shackleton of his day.

I sat next to his son at school - the same school that Shackleton attended.

To my mind and from memory - was the weakest link in that team/defensive line up - Gilbert, Cannon and King Ken were all much better footballers than Doris.

Don't get me wrong Doris gave it his all and was great in his time, but a great right back he wasn't.

IMO - Clyne, Pembo, Humphrey, Ward - were all better than Doris.

But AWB is now top of the class - he is pure class..!!

Not how I remember Doris in his pomp. Gilbert and Cannon were rocks. Doris became very cultured and exciting.

Bissaka reminds me of Boetang a few years ago,(German defender), if he makes a mistake, rarely, he’s proper rapid and has long legs.
AWB puts in proper tackles, would have fitted in the 80s, 90s.
I can see him as a top top level full back, not sure if he could be a great wing back, an old school defender, not as good going forward.

He’s got quick feet. I reckon he has the potential. Still finding his mojo and concentrating on avoiding mistakes and not overextending himself IMO.

I’d agree , if he wasn’t a converted winger, but his crossing isn’t great.
The best thing they ever done was put him at right back. Absolute machine of a player, looking forward to seeing in against Anderson on Saturday.

Do you think it depends which foot he uses when crossing?

You may well be right about the rose coloured glasses thing, it was a long time ago and the game and the full back positions have changed a lot, King Kenny was far better than Doris I agree, but he was actually World class in the end, so that’s no shame, but from my memory nothing much got passed Doris in his prime, and there was more out and out wingers around then.

AWB is class I know, but will he be here long enough to win the player of the year a couple of times, score the goals Doris did or be part of a great side like Doris? I very much doubt it. If and it’s a big if AWB is still around in a couple of years performing like he is I’m sure my opinion will have changed, but until then, still Doris IMO

I can cope with you thinking Clyne, Pemberton or Ward being better, I don’t agree, but I respect that opinion, but you’ve lost me with John Humphrey!! Really?? ‘Steady’ is the best I could say about him, but better than Doris?? No chance!!

Haven’t really thought about it. To be fair playing with 2 wide wingers it must be harder to overlap than if he was being played in a back 5.
If we struggle to find an outfield player that can take a decent corner, I expect that crossing isn’t a priority in training.
Could see him ending up being a centre back, would be a nightmare to have him man marking you.
He should go on to be a great player.

He was a centre back. A bad centre back.

You are on a wind up now!

You clearly can’t have seen him play much for Palace (if at all) and please don’t rely on Willopedia...you need to extend your research a little further to the team sheets of the 1996/1997 years, or watch the season reviews on video or DVD.

Muscat was a fullback! Right footed and predominantly Right sided, however he did play games for us in the Number 3 shirt when Marc Edworthy was fit and holding down the right back spot.

Muscat was with us when we had Andy Roberts, David Tuttle, Andy Linighan and Herman Hreidarsson playing at Centreback. You know...I’m sure you’ll remember Andy Roberts dropping back from midfield to play at centreback alongside Tuttle once his legs had lost that bit of pace...No?!?!

There’s a theme developing in a lot of your posts and the bollox you’re writing about Muscat playing at centre back for Palace as opposed to fullback, just re-inforces it!
