804 days injured in his career... 2 and a half years with injuries occurring pretty much every season and we are paying £8million... What a joke, let’s just hope he fails his medical.

Everton, West ham, Leicester are kicking on because they have far more money than we do. I wouldn’t believe any rumours until they happen and I expect us to sign at least 2 decent quality players, maybe 3+, and I don’t mean the level of James McCarthy. Rudi Hedman Problem is that some of the rumours reflect the actualite.

The press come out with rumours. 99% of them are untrue and then we usually sign a few players with 1-3 weeks left that nobody knew we were interested in. But still people get sucked in by this sh1te every summer. Enjoy your Saturdays peeps, we’ll start putting bids in very soon.

This makes sense in so far as we need a right-back and a new striker, so let's go somewhere between and get a midfielder! Unless we have more money than expected then 8m on an injury prone player in the one position we have cover seems insane.

Agree with Rudi, we virtually always get deals done without leaks and have no idea about the players coming in until it’s done or almost done. Being on Sky doesn’t make it true, but it does give it more weight than the average rumour. £8m sounds like a vast sum for him imo and his injury record it seems is terrible. I just can’t see this being true. Not for those figures. But then £8m is the same we wasted on Sørloth... Either way I expect us to sign a striker and two defenders before the windows out.

Lots of problems with movement and covering in central midfield with Shelvey and Mooy, as creative as they may be (Huddersfield midfield was all over the place when defending, they had to use Mooy further up the pitch cause he didn't close down spaces enough and Newcastle suffered whenever Shelvey played). And both would cost around 10 million. Holtby is faster, works harder, just as talented and comes free

Regards Mooy and Shelvey, I accept that both are not the quickest or most mobile and defensively are not the best but they have other useful qualities. I re-iterate that I really rated Holtby when he was playing in England but haven't seen him play for quite a while. You will know far better than me how he has fared abroad - judging by your comments he has performed with some aplomb. Tapping into your vast knowledge of the European market, may I ask how you rate Miroslav Stoch of Slavia Prague ? Edited by Willo (20 Jul 2019 10.51am)

In all the discussions amongst Palace fans (including the knowledgeable ones!) nobody has suggested central midfield - where McCarthy plays - as a priority.

He has had an amazing season in the Czech league, but it's a totally different pace than in the PL. He is already 30 and he doesn't run as fast as he did. He was a really fast player 10 years ago, was in Chelsea's Academy, then on loan to some important clubs. Is much more intelligent now, but has lost his stamina. He is very short and in 1-on-1 duels can't really compete, when he sprints he can only do so for a short distance because of his height and low center of gravity and often doesn't keep up with younger and more agile players. Went to PAOK Salonic this summer for a few million, he had played there before with good results. They won the league in Greece, first time in many years when someone other than Olympiakos wins it and will try to get into the Champions League groups. It will be hard. Let alone winning the leage again. Olympiakos has transferred Valbuena, Soudani, Randjelovic and El Arabi, all better than Stock in my opinion. I have to ask, why Stoch? I found the question a bit odd. Do you like him a lot? Or seen him recently?
