So what you are saying here.....from what I understand is that the traditional British culture is heavily influenced by Normans.

I disagree with you. Norman culture was restricted mostly to the aristocracy and the landed class because there wasn't an overwhelming influx from Normandy following 1066.

That's why the genes on this island are majority anglo saxon and not Norman.

The Normans themselves were actually originally Norsemen (or Vikings).

Culture itself is influence by genes....but that's another story and probably a little controversial for you.

There is no Anglo Saxon majority, don't know where your figures come from.

So Norman culture didn't influence the country, just the Normans that came over. Interesting take on history.

A bit like saying Latin America didn't really get affected much by the Spanish.

We are a mongrel breed, get over it. That is what makes us strong and possibly also helps us to be an international trading powerhouse. We also move on very very quickly. No matter how much some people push against the tide and refuse to learn from our great British king Knut

I changed my post a little from the version you replied to because I was a bit too emphatic.....but the point still stands.

My source:

Also I know from British history that the Normans didn't expand much into the working class peasant culture but focused its strength in the landed classes.

The English, who have bred on these islands for over a thousand years are mainly a northern European and regional mix......I've never stated otherwise.

You need to accept accuracy and precision rather than me I'm afraid.

I think this is enough on this topic from me

Suffice it to say that 30% of our DNA comes from Anglo Saxon progenitors and 40% from French. As you yourself posted. So I don't know why you keep talking about the Anglo Saxons.

And interestingly, the Romans and the Normans didn't intermarry much with the locals. Damned immigrants that refused to integrate and insisted on maintaining their foreign ways.

Yet strangely our laws, architecture and every aspect of our culture is more influenced by them than any other group. What a turn up for the books. It's almost like it doesn't matter from where your DNA comes in order to affect culture and incomers have driven what we now consider to be our English culture. Better stop that right now! I recommend immediate ossification, otherwise who knows how this may come out.

Well that 'French' immigration was from around 10,000 years ago......There wasn't even a France then...Pretty much all of Europe was a similar 'Gaul'/'Celtic or 'Scandinavian' type.....long before the divisions into any Angles or Saxons, Romans, Danes or her next door emerged and turned up.

For obvious reasons, the Germanic DNA is large and recent and hence that has a significant affect on what makes up the English.

I don't know what you are waffling about with your 'French' culture in England malarkey.....Maybe you've had one too many crossants for your breakfast over the years.....each to his own.

As for your belief that it doesn't matter where your DNA comes from......Yes and no.......An intelligent person is intelligent regardless of their genes origin. However genes do have an affect on culture....but that's a complicated tangent away from this topic.

I didn't use to value being a WASP but now I do.....because I see its existence under threat.....But that doesn't mean that only WASPs can be English.

Yes, I do like a cossant. And a choctine. You can get these smaller french delicacies from Lidl if you can't cope with the full size versions. I recommend New Addington Lidl.

What do you know about her next door

You and that Lidl in New Addington.....Do you have shares in it or something.

Her next door is a sort......If I were twenty years younger......I'd be 29......and she'd still probably turn me down.

Never mind.

There's quite a nice Aldi in Selsdon if that is your cup of tea.

I like their German stuff. They used to do a very nice Wiener Schnitzel but sadly dumped it a couple of years ago. Still, Bratwurst, Frikadellen, cheese, salami, Lebkuchen, Stollen and wash it down with a Franziskaner. Yum.

Gotta make the most of it whilst we still have it. It’ll be illegal if you so much as look at it from April. And German cabbages will be subject to the kohl tax.

They also do a whole frozen goose for £20 (but they're Hungarian).
