Moeen traps Matthews and another follows.

So, bucketing with rain and the hosts need 79 to win with 3 wickets left.

The weather for tomorrow has to be factored in as well, it could well get rained off.

Not a foregone conclusion but hopeful.

This is certainly the weakest Sri Lankan team for years but well played England even if we did just scrap by in this game.

The new players in the side are signs for hope....Burns, Foakes, Curran.

This weak Sri Lankan team is the one that recently slaughtered South Africa.

You also forgot to congratulate the has been for his six wickets

I'm not sure it is the same team....haven't they had retirements?

Ali isn't in my test team. He still has a bowling average of 37 and a batting one of 31.

In fact England's spinners just aren't that good....from watching this test anyway on a spinning top against an very average batting side.

Leach just doesn't spin the ball that much......If that's the case you need either a spinning pitch or control like a Peter Such and that control level just wasn't there enough for me here....Still, the pitch helped him so much that those sins were covered.

Ali appears to now be able to spin the ball more than even the leggie Rashid but while I've been pleasantly surprised with an increased effectiveness this tour I'm not convinced as to how well he go on tougher tests abroad to South Africa and Australia......He has a high away bowling average for a reason.

Rashid is a leg spinner and as such a weapon I'm always been keen on within a team. But he's not as consistent on length as you'd like....though since coming back into the side he's bowled better than before.

England don't have great spinning options. With good spinners no side would have gone beyond 200 on that pitch.

I thought England were going to have the same problems removing their tail enders and lose by one wicket after not reviewing a dodgy LBW decision.

Moeen Ali came up with the goods this time though. An excellent ball to break the partnership and an absolute snorter to get rid of Lakmal.

Only Herath who played 1 of the 2 tests against us so far. If anything it's been a stronger side with more test caps as they dropped Gunathilaka from opening.

19 wickets from spin in the two innings, the most ever, and the pitch was nothing like the dust bowls we've seen in the past in Sri Lanka. They performed well if you ask me.

I've watched quite a lot of this series live and what can I say.....I haven't been impressed with Ski Lanka and most of the commentators haven't either.

Perhaps South Africa are just poorer than us on spinning tracks or have even poorer spinning options than us I couldn't say.

However, when it comes to the spinning options in the English side I'm of the view that if they were Indian none of them would be bowling for India.

Still they have performed well and the England side in general is shaping up a little better.....even if the Jennings selection and the number three are still problems.

I look forward to Stone playing....though that will probably be in the summer.

I think that you are letting your preconceived prejudices get in the way as Moeen Ali outbowled Ravi Ashwin in the recent series in England.

Moeen Ali has more 4th innings 4+ wicket hauls than any other England bowler, ever. He's also got more than Broad and Anderson have combined.

And a better 4th innings bowling average than Swann, Warne, Underwood and Kumble amongst others.

Wow. I didn't know that and am very surprised that he outbowled Warney in any aspect
