I think Ayew is an upgrade on Sako, Meyer may turn out to be one of our best ever signings, and Kouyate is a reliable PL option. There might be a slight issue with balance, since RLC played on the left of a four and we haven't directly replaced that, but overall things look solid and we haven't spent too much when you consider all the wages we freed up.

I think There's a chance we're planning on playing Ayew on the left

Out of interest, is the general consensus that this has been a positive or negative window?

Replacing Cabaye, RLC & Sako with Meyer, Kouyate & Ayew doesn't seem very convincing to me - and thats before we've even added squad players...

Given Cabaye struggled to last 90mins and the other two spent half the season injured the hole wasn't as big to fill as many have suggested. Sako was fun last season, but he never really convinced as a PL player for me. I think Ayew is at least as good. I would love RLC back, but he did go missing in some games and didn't entirely convince with his defensive duties. Cabaye's set pieces were not great for most of last season and he seemed to be struggling in many games. Hopefully Meyer can ably fill in as the man that links everything together, plus he has some amazing dribbling skills and perhaps more of an eye for the killer pass. Kouyate always looked a beast for West Ham, so hopefully he'll flourish in new surroundings.

The other big thing for me is the ongoing development of AWB who looks like he is going to get better and better. With two fullbacks capable of posing a real threat it will make us a dangerous proposition on the break. The final thing I would say is that I'm in the camp that believe Bentenke will be a different player this year. He seems very focused and motivated so I'm expecting good things from the big man. Sometimes it's not just about new signings, but the development of the ones you have.

Having said all that, one more creative player like RLC or Antonio may be the difference between lower-mid table and an outside chance of a Europa league spot.

Agree to an extent on the Benteke part. Looked better and more focused preseason but still missing chances he really should be scoring. He needs to get off the mark in the first few games or his confidence will be shot again

He can play as an inside forward on the left, but not sure if he's able to play like that as part of a midfield 4 rather than an attacking 3. He's a forward after all, not a midfielder, but certainly more mobile and versatile than our other forwards.

The thing is going forward we tend to move into a front 4. The rumour is Ayew is our replacement for Loftus-Cheek so think we'll see him on the left, with Benteke and Zaha in the middle and Townsend on the right. Not sure if he'd have come to be back up to Benteke, which I think he'd be if he doesn't play on the left

Ayew = big upgrade on Sako (as good as he looked late, he only started 4 games, and of course a constant sick-note)

Kouyaté = probably a wash with RLC, of course RLC has bags of potential, but he missed more games than Zaha. Got 2 goals, just like RLC. No doubt we could have used RLC's offence more, but Kouyaté brings a lot more grit to the midfield.

Meyer = the BIG question, and the most important. I think Cabaye's ability to break up play and makes the forward pass will be something we really miss. Meyer has all the tools to be a 10-years younger Cabaye, with better pace. If he adapts well, then we could have a great season.

Guaita = should be a big upgrade, though it may take some time. Euro keepers seem to have to adjust to the prem. With all respect to Jules, a much better trio.

As for Lee, well he never did much (nor did Much!), and I think that Lokilo or Lumenka can provide equal or better cover.

All in all I think it'S a very good window. After all the injuries last season, hopefully this season Roy gets a chance to show what he can do with a healthy squad.

I'm guessing we are not getting a second loan player as it's only 2 hours of the window left and not many rumours have approached for it. Bolasie won't be signed on loan. I'm very happy with the rest of the business this summer though.

There are still a few hours to go we will see. I feel that it is too great a risk buying him with his recent injuries. Everton may see this as well. They want him off books and are unlikely to want to reduce price. So a loan fee if £3 million plus obligation to buy if he plays 25 or more games at £17 million or so.

The other point is more general clubs loan players for 4 reasons.
1)They can't get buyer and need wages off books eg Ayew
2)It is a young player they want to develop in a first team somewhere eg RLC. They will only loan player if they think he will get games
3)A player coming back from injury who needs competitive action either for future sales or to return to play eg Souare or Wickham
4) Player has no real future at club , or contract winding down so going on loan with aright to buy is right for all parties eg Mutch

This illustrates the problem with some of the players suggested on loan they may not be a first choice starter so loaning club will be want guarantees of playing time eg Tammy Abraham.

For us we have weaknesses at winger and short term Central defender so these are areas where a loan signing may be good for all parties

It’s all very quiet for transfer deadline day. 1 hour 20 mins left, not expecting much other than Ayew. Was hoping for more excitement. Yawn.

Would have liked to have seen Antonio and/or Origi plus a CB but decent summer none the less

I don't think we have much money to spend, and to be honest, not many holes in the team to fill.

Rumours of a last minute bid for Origi. Probably not true though
