There's good nationalism (cultural affiliation and ideas) and bad nationalism (race and class). Leftists and racists focus on the latter. I view nationalism as Mo Farah on a lap of honour waving the Union flag, while the left and far right views nationalism as a white skinhead waving the Union flag. Did the union flag take steroids ?

If Nationalism is what has happened to the country over the last month I'm fully on board. That England team is representative of modern England and the England I grew up in in so so many ways.

There is a textbook definition of nationalism which is the following - "an extreme form of patriotism marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries" So the "moderate" nationalists either aren't nationalists at all or they're being dishonest about how moderate they really are. Edited by Mstrobez (12 Jul 2018 11.57am) The "feeling of superiority" is that we have the best football songs, we have the most loyal following at away games and huge turnouts in places at places like BoxPark, and an incredibly diverse bunch of England fans where MILLIONS get along and are united. It should be celebrated. Edited by Penge Eagle (12 Jul 2018 12.15pm)

So the benchmark of superiority is by default not based on anything other than people thinking they’re inherently better than other people, just because they say so. I’m sure plenty of nations had terrific turnouts to watch games. I’m sure plenty of nations would feel their songs are better. So that is still an implication of being superior on the basis of nationality alone.

Plus, feeling superior is not a bad thing, unless you do bad actions off the back of it. Edited by Penge Eagle (12 Jul 2018 3.34pm)
