Oh come on Becks...your a pensioner, you paid in all your working life but not enough...now pay more you cheeky scoundrel, these youngsters are not happy, that you are or will be a burden. You know my view on this...fck em !

Well, perhaps if the state does decide to change these dynamics I'll find cause to have more sympathy with people like Becky than with those with your attitude here.

Sadly that's an incredibly simplistic view..the system needs to be reformed at the same time...cutting much of the waste, resulting in a potential net increase in tax of 1p in the pound. That money should also be ringfenced for certain things, such as nurses and preventative care...not just for consultants; agency staff; over inflated drug prices and another layer of middle management.

I can only talk about the areas of the NHS that my wife has worked in but there are very few layers of middle management, possibly not enough middle managers as leaving the doctors and nurses to do management tasks that they (often) are not trained to do and shouldn't be doing as it takes them away from more important roles.

Agency staff are very expensive but are necessary as it is often so difficult to employ people in the NHS. Whoever though that nursing should be a degree course was bonkers.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I believe that it was the Royal College of Nursing who wanted to make entrance to the profession more difficult resulting in hundreds of people who had the right aptitude to be a nurse missing out whilst those people that were good at passing exams but weren't that interested in looking after sick people getting through the door.

A very pertinent and valid point. I simply couldn't believe it when they did this.....elitist and bonkers.

Taking a profession that traditionally helped social mobility for the bright working class girl at A level and instantly made it a huge financial risk.

To make it worse when my wife qualified about 15 years ago she received a bursary during her three year course without which we couldn't have afforded for her to just stop working but this has since been scrapped and anyone wishing to become a nurse nowadays has to fund it themselves

It's the very opposite of what should be happening.

Those who fully pay into the system usually use all those contributions up within ten years.

So, this sense of entitlement is misplaced. However, of course I do fully support our pension system and I'm proud of the fact that it's one of the best in the world.

Though perhaps if we could cut off people with your attitude we'd feel better about it.

Oh hang on...I'm 48...perhaps not.

As a spritely (soon to be) 48yr old myself I barely remember Logans Run...didnt it have that robot that kept going "diggy diggy"??

Not likely if you retire before state pension age.
