The fact is, we couldn’t replace him with a player of similar quality regardless of the money we have. Players of Zaha’s quality aren’t just going to sign for Palace unfortunately. Any money raised would have to be spent of a number of good industrious players such as Your McArthur’s and Townsend’s. You’re just not going to get a player of his quality smoking up to play for us. I don't think any price would be too tempting for Palace, it would be what club and wage would be too tempting for Wilf.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

even if everyone in the football world agreed he was £60m, £70m or £80m (he has to be worth more than Van Dijk) it doesn't matter as his value to us, based on staying in the PL is higher than that market value. I am sure £150m would be 'too tempting' but no one will offer that. He has four years left on his deal, paid £20k more a week then Harry Kane, and happy so not likely to strike to get away. He probably recognises that a year under Roy could really improve his game and if he is eyeing a move in the future the best way he can do that is to close the gap between his market value and his value to Palace - by scoring a lot of goals would be nice! My perfect scenario would be for him to stay the next two years and hope the prospect of playing him in the upgraded Selhurst Park for a season will keep him that extra third year. With a year left on his contract then we will be tempted by a decent offer with the costs of building the new stand being a burden. The job in the meantime, apart from simply staying in the PL, is to find a way of getting some points when he is not in the team. Then his eventual departure won't be such a hammer blow.

Most sensible post on the whole thread.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Second and Third Order Transfer Effects (Zaha)' by Midlands Eagle Hi all, If Hazard departs Chelsea for Man City for something around 100$ million, Morata to Juve for 50$ million and Willian departs for United for something around 40$ million - i fear Chelsea will come hard and heavy for Wilf. All of this above is reported speculation and transfer paper talk but I think if two of the three depart - Parish's mettle will be tested, surely. Thoughts? (I know wilf has said he isn't leaving but athletes say one thing and do the other all the time)

Especially if they get rid of Hazard and Morata. They won't offer enough in my book so he won't be going to Chelsea. If van Dijk is worth £75m Wilf is worth £100m minimum.

I'd also add that Wilf is now a de facto striker. One reason why we may not go into the striker market, or not in a big way, this summer is that we have him. That too only increases his value to us which is almost incalculable.
I think best case scenario, is he stays for another season, grows fully into the striker role, (and hopefully a cheeky league cup or FA cup for us) and goes to a Champions league club for 70+ million next summer.
