Just noticed that Birmingham have just scored. So, as things stand, Sunderland are 8 points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Championship. That is why it is so important not to get relegated, you never know when the falling will stop.

Four points from our next three games, four points from our last three games. 38 points in total. Leaves (2 of the 3 below having to happen): Huddersfield needing 8 from 6, including 3 games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City. Southampton needing 10 from 7, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City. Stoke needing 12 from 6, including Tottenham and Liverpool. If 2 of the 3 above happen, then: Swansea need 7 from 7, including games against Manchester City and Chelsea, so 7 from 5, and 2 of those games are against Stoke and Southampton. If Huddersfield suddenly go on a run, then that will drop Brighton back in it. In short, it is in our hands. A lot of things have to happen for us to go down. We better hope that the top 6 turn up against the bottom 6. Further, just to compare our respective performances since week 7: Palace 30 points from 25 games. There is no evidence to suggest that we will not survive. God Bless you Sir. My frown just melted away.

Looking at the remaining fixtures for those clubs around us, I actually think just the two wins will be enough.

Which should be enough as Stoke, Southampton and Huddersfield cannot all go on a monster game-winning run.

Try the Oldham FC museum archives I seem to remember saying the same thing about this time last season, that was different because it required one improbable thing to happen whereas this would require a confluence of two improbable things - assuming we get 8 points. I remember getting roasted on here a month or so back when I said that 35 might be enough, but I would feel much more comfortable with 38.

Just noticed city are getting steamrollered, putting our performance in perspective. Don't get me wrong we should've drawn at least, but it does reflect on us fairly well, we didn't exactly sit behind the ball for large parts of the match. That said the last games will be tough.
