And that right there is why Tekers hasn't been bothering his arse - if Wickham were fit, Hodgson wouldn't pick him ahead of Benteke because Benteke would be turning up.

However by Saturday he ought to be properly fit again and we do have one option for dropping him, two up front with Wilf and Townsend.

That does mean Townsend turning up though. The same arrangements with Puncheon instead of Townsend don't bear thinking about.

When is Wickham due back, any ideas?

Benteke has just returned from injury. If he gets fully up to speed in the next month and scores a few then the question posed on this thread won't be asked.

In any event other clubs will think we have left leave of our senses if Benteke is made available given his PL record and there won't be any shortage of interest.

Frustrating thing I find with Benteke is he's useless with the ball at his feet. Yes, I know his strength and the quality he brings is in the air but for the money we paid for him we should expect that he's capable of bringing the ball down and bringing others into play. Whenever he has the ball at his feet or tries to do anything other than knock it on he invariably looses possession He's a very frustrating player to watch. Would have loved to see him with a Defoe type alongside him.

Did you not see this game.?

Jesus wept! We need to get an extra two strikers into the club in January, not sell the only one we have. Especially off the back of him being anonymous in his first full game in 2 months, during which he was barely provided with a decent cross.

The logic is if we sell him for 30 million (which might still be possible on the back of his goal tally last season) we can bring in 2 or 3 10 million pounds strikers to replace him.

And be relegated. If we're scouting properly then we can hold off until the summer when we know which league we'll be in.

Daft to sell your only fit striker. Although Benteke doesn't always seem as mobile as one would hope, the quality of final ball into the box from wing play or set pieces is quite often atrocious! RH needs to get this aspect sorted quick.

Benteke hasnt scored a goal in 9 games hes played in this season. Why do you think we'd be relegated if we replaced him with two other strikers?
If he continues to have a poor season, and especially if we go down, I very much doubt if we will get our money back on him in the summer.

I've been saying since he was at Liverpool. Overrated. For a lump he gets pushed off the ball. And his movement is shocking. I've seen more movement in a morgue. We look better playing a 4 4 2 with wild and Andros up top. We have to replace him in the summer.

Agree. Except January.

If we sold CB and CW was available, and played, how long before he was injured again. Put some money on him not lasting more than 2- 3 full games.
As for replacements can't see any decent young strikers rushing to join us, unless we climbed well clear of the bottom three by then.
Think we and CB will be together till the summer.

It's going to take new strikers time to gel and settle, especially if from a foreign league. Benteke will settle when fit, we click and he gets chances. That'll be sooner than bringing in 2 foreign league players.

The service Benteke has had has been appalling. Did you see his frustration under Frank? Him thumping the ball at ht or in stoppages?

Getting our money back is an accountant's decision and not based on anything sport results related and why Parish shouldn't be making football decisions any more.

We are not able to ride any more disruptions because of yet another p1ss poor summer. Sort those and we can move forward. Until then it's patch job after patch job.

Playing devils advocate, if he scores zero goals for the next 8,10 weeks do you think his value will go up or down? The definition of a fine striker is one who finds the back of the net when presented with goal scoring opportunities. Benteke has been presented with at least 8 of those this season from memory and failed to bury one. His value will be better in Jan than at the end of the season.

Of course, I would only consider selling him if we had two replacements lined up to spend the money on as even with Wickham fit we are still one light. Babacar and Afobe are Beneteke-esque and may be available, Tosun is one I would really like as he can play more in the way I think Roy wants us to play.

Agree with others that it would be unreasonable to sell the only striker we have with no guarantee of CW being fit for January. I also think that he will be OK once he scores - and he will eventually if given any service.
In addition I think that he plays a useful role in our defence at corners stopping near post balls.
