We are talking about the 'divorce bill'. If the divorce is called off there are no divorce commitments. The EU does not want a divorce it is painful for them as well. When talking about commitments the UK is of course being at its most selective in walking away from a major treaty, the Treaty of Rome. If such treaties are just a piece of paper to us then its not surprising there are no trade deals actually forthcoming. Will the UK keep to a trade deal? We will see if they tie things up with the EU first. No longer trusted.
We are not simply 'walking away' from this - the Treaty actually does contain the mechanism for any signatory to leave if they so wish. The problem is that they were so certain that no-one would want to, and that the United Federal States of Europe would one day obviate the possibility of any one country so doing, that they omitted to include the basic terms and conditions for leaving.

Of course that's right Becky, as who would ever want to leave paradise? Which is of course, what Europe is, now come on UK admit it. It was just a tiff these things happen ........

Of course then I haven't visited the equivalent of Catford and Sunderland either. Of course the primary reason why the EU never really saw fit to see countries leaving, is that most of the EU power houses, have historic land borders and very close relations with each other, and have had very little in terms of border controls. Cross border traffic and inter-relationships make those nations very blurred - and there is a long tradition of cross border immigration for work and settlement - in a way that's more akin to the relationship between England, Scotland and Ireland. The EU should never have gone with 'freedom of movement' - That's effectively been its death knell in the UK.
