Blame anything but the actual reason. The gun lobby have always been ludicrous, but now it's become a parody of itself! Political news used for click bait is a problem. A lot of liars making money out there. Plato said that those who enter politics should be unpaid.....There's something in that. As soon as advertisers started using the web.....well, money leads to corruption....it's difficult...I don't know what the answer is. Edited by Stirlingsays (08 Nov 2017 11.54pm)

Only a few more years until 3d printed guns become efficient killing machines. It will be just like downloading an MP3. Edited by Ouzo Dan (09 Nov 2017 12.11am)

Edited by Ouzo Dan (09 Nov 2017 12.11am) This is unlikely - unless someone can invent a polymer that is effectively gun metal. The problem of 3D printed firearms is that the barrels and mechanism are only good for one shot, due to the degredation caused on the plastic by firing a round. Plus of course you need bullets - which aren't exactly easy to come by in the UK. Even if you could download and assemble an assault rifle or handgun, that could sustain the pressures of gun fire, you'd still need to buy the bullets. And other than shotgun shells, ammo is scarce in the UK other than 3-03 rifle rounds and .22 rounds for handguns and rifles (and even buying the available ammo requires a licence). Getting 5.56 or 7.62 or 9mm ammo is almost impossible except from illegal sources (the first two probably as close to impossible as it gets).

3D printing is another one of those technologies with the potential for an amazing step forward in many ways. Again....not so great for low skilled jobs by that's the way the cookie is crumbling for many jobs...both high and low skilled. 3D printers may not be able to build robust items now but surely that's just a matter of time. To perhaps ensure that effective weapons aren't able to be downloaded and created.....perhaps we could keep 3D printers out of commercial availability and have people pick up their products at a local distribution centre. But that takes away half of the whole point about 3D printers in the first place. Still....the other option is having some kind of Chinese control of the Internet.....which is horrific to consider. Anyone got other ideas how this technology could be made safe without destroying social freedoms?

Notably though, even outside of 3-D printing, no one seems to make key gun parts like barrels and firing mechanisms out of plastic.

There is a 3D Printers on Essex St (I think) where you can get an Action Man sized figure of your actual self if you so want, cost about 800 Bucks (500 odd Quid)There is talk of using them on International Space Station to make parts & I've seen body parts made where people have had accidents like lost a finger or had an ear ripped off. That's the way it will go..
