Especially in the case of the latter the mismanagement of the housing, health and education sectors. Luckily, we get full control over those areas again soon.

What HMRC should do is pretty simple. Stop prioritising people with degrees - recruit trained and experienced accountants. The flow of experienced staff at the moment is gamekeepers turning poacher. I applied for a job with HMRC - rejected as I didn't fit the spec and I quote "insufficient experience/higher education" I've been in practice 20 years, for my self for 8 years and I'm Chartered. If only I had a geography degree.

However, they are but a significant actor in the play of problems that beset this nation of nations.

Yep. I do not want to be too critical of what people choose to do with their own money but offshoring isn't good. Never claimed it was - so make it illegal, or tax the cash on repatriation. The idea that people would not follow a financial expert's advice (on something they don't really understand) because it's the "right thing to do" is just silly. I do a tax return every year, I am honest and above board on it, and it tells me what I owe or what they owe me, then I pay it (or occasionally they pay me). If a bank says to me "invest in this product, it's called an ISA, and it's tax free", an IFA says "pump more money into your pension, you'll save loads of tax", or Delboy Trotter's Offshore investments says "this product returns x% and is completely legal and tax free" are all largely the same to me - I'm being advised by subject matter experts on what is best for me financially. In the same way that I never receive a tax demand and say "no, I think you've done excellent work spending my taxes, and I'm feeling a bit flush, so don't take £1,000, have £2,000" I'm not going to second guess experts on tax liability. If it's offensive to people, then change the rules to make it no longer a legal option, it's that simple. Incidentally, I don't have any offshore investments except whatever may be in my pension pot and/or ISA plans, so I'm not directly affected, just to declare my position, but I find it harsh to vilify people as immoral for doing something totally legal that they almost certainly don't fully understand on the advice of a paid expert employed to advise them.

What we shouldn't do is then over tax the high earners, where is the equality of that? If you do well we will tax you more. Thanks for that. You will end up with a mediocre society. You can say that they won't miss much lifestyle but why should they miss any? I am all for supporting under privileged people that true want to better themselves. Unfortunately we don't have a society to do that. Anyone that goes to school and tries hard, works to achieve can make and earn good money in this country. It really is a simple as that. Most!!! Just because someone does not earn as much as someone else doesn't mean they don't work hard and if your family do what you say, you should take responsibility and have a word. Never saw the point of a degree if you have professional qualifications. Thing is always going to be, the people who take advantage and police the loopholes, are also the people who run and influence the country. A lot of MPs seem to take advantage of the situation, and that's a real problem - because they're also not likely to be wanting to change that situation. HMRC funding means they go after 'the easy cases' rather than the big boys who can afford to fight back.

Its odd that I'm excited about the fact our bin men collect our rubbish, on a weekly basis, and are helpful. That's how far the 'outsourcing' of the bin services have got us. Used to be a hard work, that paid well (as I used to know a few 'tougher kids' who worked on the bins when I left school. Now it seems its not so much work, for f**k all money.

The real issue here is that ALL this stuff is LEGAL...so it doesnt matter what tangents we all go off on during this thread the real question that needs answering is wtf is the WORLD going to do about it to bring all the corporations (forget about individuals for the time being) to book and pay tax when and where its due. Start there and then look at individuals...the whole BBC panorama programme last night was simply celeb bashing, solacious and tabloidesque
