Why would a foreign company move their production here?

Now after globalisation living costs are higher here, so is wage demand.

Invest in renewables, it's getting cheaper and if it makes us a lot more energy self efficient, it's got to be worth it in the long term.

A shame all governments seem to lack a long term view.

Yes, should've done that. Boat missed, again.

Well it is believed or hoped that after Brexit we would have the freedom to lure big business here and make the UK more attractive to foreign companies

Turkey is thriving by being outside the EU and favourable currency, even when you factor in tarrifs

I was talking more about European car manufacturers moving their car production to Britain.

I would disagree with the view that British Cars were ugly - particularly at the start of the decade - E-type, Lotus Elan, TR6, MGB, original mini etc. The issues at BL were a combination of poor management, poor labour relations, brands competing with each other (Triumph & MG) with little co-operation between them, lack of investment and poor build quality.

I own a 1972 MGB so I am a tad biased!

Arguably those are the cars that kind of survived the death of the British Car industry - The cars with panache and style (and yeah a Mini has style and panache in spades as a small cheap car).

They are better off starting their own businesses with their redundancy money. Possibly the best opportunity a lot of them will ever have.

What as? their trade is dead and the area they live in has just seem massive layoffs. The options for a new business opportunity are pretty slim.

Its not like when I got made redundant - I could start my own business, using the skills from the job I had. Those skills these people have, relate to an industry that is now dead.
