I reckon the last ice age was ended by all those cavemen banging flints together causing sparks.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

Erm this thread is about U.S. Politics being influenced by religion. I have already had my say on religious nuttery. I would undermine the institutions that perpetuate religion. Sadly, politicians are too gutless and self serving to do so.

All civilisations rise and fall, and usually a new one just rises to fill the gaps and sweep up the ashes (and then steal from the one they replaced). Even 'the divinity of kings' couldn't save feudalism.

What's on yhe left? inefficiency, stagnation, cronyism, identity politics. The fact is that humanity will inevitably use up resources, poison the environment and exploit the weak because population grows and men seek to better themselves. Something akin to nanotechnology. The capacity to influence matter on the atomic scale (i.e. engineering either at the atomic or subatomic level) which would effectively allow anything to be changed into anything else (if you can move protons, electrons and neutrons from one substance to another, you can materially reproduce anything from anything else). You could turn plastic waste into food, and literal s**t into gold. The downside of course is that it would be an end to capitalism (given that you'd have no basis of supply and demand), and limitless resources (esp. as you could turn dead bodies into anything else).

This is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. No wonder we have problems. Those that don't believe we a global environmental crisis should be truly ashamed.
