I'm going to end up getting my hopes up for this one.

As much as it pains me I just can't see anything other than a 1-0 defeat. Just can't see us creating any clear chances and Burnley nicking it in the last 10 minutes. I really hope I am wrong but things are clearly not well at Palace.

What I can envisage happening is that we revert to a back 4, we play well and we win the game. However, FDB will be devoid of any praise because the victory will be because of either 1. The change in system or 2. The Sakho effect. With some of our supporters FDB is on a hiding nothing.

I should start off by stating that I am a real pessimist when it comes to Palace (which is justified after supporting for the last 32 years). I actually make Willo look like an optimist. That being said, I have a funny feeling we will win 4-1. We will go one down, followed by a Dann equaliser, Benteke grabbing a couple and then Cabaye late on. Simple.

Sorry to say 1-0 Burnley. Hope I'm wrong. It would be good if FDB could buy a bit more time. I think the M.S. effect will improve the defence, but maybe not straight away.

Lawro reckons 2-1 so I'm going for the reverse 1-2 as long as Punch is dropped and 343 is dropped into File 13. COYP !!

Looks like another chance for us to get done every match we were supposed to win last season we got shafted, sorry can't see anything better. Burnley have learnt from last season have a good team a good manager who bought well although its early days and unless they have a bad day on our form sorry can't see it. Would really like just one season where we don't spend all of it starring at relegation. We do have some very good players so what the F*** is the problem every year.

As I replied in another thread, it's a good point but not many have both playing so high. One will usually play in the hole, where Luka will be. If however they do play high and pump the ball to full back position where we don't have anyone then you'll have a potential situation of one of their forwards going to meet the ball, drawing one of 3 CB's over to the full back area, their player waits for wing support and then chaos. It may be a game we see Frank having to react with tactical nous. We've seen some evidence of that v Swansea, but Kelly took it upon himself to take Ayew on with nobody to instantly pass to at left back with ward pushed up in a 4 so we shall see.

A 3 man back line can struggle against opponents who play 4-3-3. Both Otto Rehhagel and Marcelo Bielsa both insist on a spare man at the back – that is to say, they want 4 at the back against a 4-3-3, or 3 at the back if the opposition play 4-4-2. Never 4 v 2, or 3 v 3. And these are top coaches. In fact Bielsa has been known to switch between a 3 and a 4 at the back during a game if the opposition make changes to their formation. One thing for sure is that both Vokes and new signing Wood are good in the air so whoever plays in defence will be tested aerially and physically.Wouldn't say that these two nor Walters and Barnes are particularly pacey so might not be able to stretch our defenders and expose them in wide areas if we play a three at the back. Bit late now to get into such detail about systems and formations ! Edited by Willo (07 Sep 2017 11.51pm)
