I am concerned that we only signed Sakho, but what a signing and I will try to be more optimistic. With him back, and Wilf and Yohan still with us, we have the same Squad that battled so well for us last Season plus the addition of RubenLC who is a quality player. On the goalkeeping front, there will be experienced free agent keepers out there looking for a Club but what is wrong with giving Jules a go and benching Wayne ? It will be good to get Connor and Papa fit again and back in the Squad but I believe that both Sulley KaiKai and Dann started out as forwards and we know how good the latter is with headers. Ladapo is still learning at a higher level but he has the attributes to be a good target man so he may well turn out to be a surprise package if he gets a run in the Team. The scenario is not ideal, I grant you, but hardly the grounds for depression. We have not, as yet, played to our strengths and now that the Transfer Window has closed, FdB will know that he will have to make do with what he has and lean on their abilities. However, he may walk away on the grounds that our Board welcomed his ideas and Plan but fell short when it come to financing them. He should make Sakho captain and listen to ideas coming out of the dressing room. Such a change will remove pressure off Punch and get him playing freely again. Whatever happens, Sakho has an influential part to play and I cannot see that he will shy away from making his opinions known. We do have a good Squad of players who are down on confidence but this will change when we revert to playing a style which they feel comfortable in. We have some very skillful Speroni Ward Cabaye Townsend Perhaps reasons to be cheerful and unite ? A brilliant post emohasing all the positives, and there is a lot to be positive about. I do have concerns about FdB and with the squad we have got we really should not have lost the first three games. We have a reaaly good squad of players who have looked insecure defensively and not looked like scoring upfront. If performances still dont improve with Sakho onboard now, Parish will have to be brave and sack the manager

I think Frank will be on his way out and in fairness I don't blame him. I wasn't privy to the first meeting before he came between him and Parish but I'm almost certain he would've been promised more than this. Said it time and time again that the whole approach to this window and Sakho has entirely lacked imagination and been absolutely amateurish, I'm sorry but I think it has, our priority should always be the squad and we have overlooked it entirely for the sake of not being able to identify one single alternative to Sakho that would be less money and give us more time to properly focus on other areas. We had so much time to identify targets and get them, it is abundantly clear that we need another striker and goalkeeper and have failed miserably - and im guessing it's because we were taking the "Sakho at all costs" stance and ensuring we had the budget necessary to get it secured on deadline day, regardless of repercussions on the rest of the squad. People can say what they want about the Frank situation, how much he doesn't suit "the palace way" and how tactically naive he may be. But the one thing no one can claim after this window is the guy has been backed in his attempts to evolve us and bring his vision to the club, be it too quickly or in baby steps. The whole appointment now just seems bizarre and you really have to question what Parishs thought process was when hiring him. Sam was backed to the hilt by Parish, Frank has been given 8mil and a big money signing on a player that's not his. This is a poor squad and I can only see a Big Sam/Pulis type of manager keeping it up this season - and sadly that ship has well and truly sunk. I will love the club regardless of how good or s*** we are. But the frustration of making the same mistakes over and over again and seemingly never learning from them just when it looks like we've turned a corner will never tire. I don't expect the world from this club and I've sung Parishes praises from the roof tops continuously, even during the Pardew saga, I've had full blown arguments with my mates about what Parish has done for this club and the place he's got us to. I disagree refutably with some Palace fans on certain issues but I always maintain that the one thing we all have in common is that we really do love our club with a passion and dedicate a large part of our life to it, and for the first time in a while, maybe not by Parish personally but by ownership collectively & in general, I feel like this summer we've been sold short and deserve a lot better. Edited by Mstrobez (01 Sep 2017 2.57am) Hard to disagree. Whilst Sakho is great addition to squad , it is so remarkably evident that additional striker(s) and GK are much required in order to really compete.

Vary happy to get Sakho but not getting another striker in is a huge gamble. I also don't buy that Sakho took all our budget, wasn't Naisse coming for 10m? From the moment Sam left to now has been handled very badly. 4 weeks to appoint a manager out of left field because Parish is so desperate for total football he missed the fact De Boer isn't right for us. Then player recruitment has been shocking. Reidewald 6 months off being a Prem player and TFM although decent isn't what was needed. A striker and a goalkeeper were far more pressing. Still this is what's happened and we have to hope Benteke stays fit and Hennessey doesn't make to many mistakes. I'm sure De Boer will be gone shortly so hopefully the next manager can get us hard to beat and grabbing the odd win.

Parish has been vocal about not knowing how other clubs can abide to FFFP and sign all these new players. Is there a loophole we're missing through inexperience, or are other teams flouting the rules and prepared to take a hit if found out. I feel like there's some operational nous we're missing with regards to club management/bringing in finance.

Think most of us are agreed. Great to get Sakho but frankly negligent of the board not to bring in a striker and a goalkeeper. What do we do when Benteke is injured / tired / can't be bothered? He needs someone challenging for his position but clearly that won't happen. We have NO adequate back up striker, or just someone to mix things up. And another season with Hennesey who is 9 times out of 10 dreadful...

We have had enough time to sort this out. Not particularly professional not to be able to actively pursue more than one named target at the same time. Yes, it may be hard to acquire a top striker when they will have accept beng second fiddle, but we are Premier League so there must be plenty of B+ talent wanting to join that particular gravy train.

IMO our best formation with the players we have would be 4-3-3 which allows fluidity to move into 4-5-1 and 4-4-2 with Wilf further forward with Benteke and one of the central 3 drifting out left. Speroni Fosu Mensah Luka Wilf Joel Ward can't be considered a starter ahead of Fosu Mensah. I watched the Netherlands get spanked by France last night and Fosu Mensah was one of Holland's better players. Quick and made some decent challenges. Not much he could have done on any of the goals with the last 3 coming from the other side and when Holland were down to 10 men.

I can understand why the Sakho deal was left to the last minute, as Palace and Liverpool were playing poker over the fee. But why on earth leave the other two to the last minute as well? It's been obvious since the transfer window opened that we needed a back-up striker and another keeper. SP won his poker game over Sakho, but surely he didn't need to play the same kind of game over the other two positions? It was always risky and we lost out because of last-minute rows over details that could have been settled, given more time.

Looks a great team, even with Speroni a controversial pick over Hennessey. The big problem is injuries! Several key players have been missing from the early matches already - and now our back-up is perilously thin.

I actually feel sorry for DeBoer. Despite the fact we have a fairly strong first team, the squad is far weaker in certain areas than it has been since Holloway. Two of the weakest Premier League goalkeepers and the situation up front is almost laughable. How can we leave the striker situation until the last day of the window and then fail, knowing our only back-up is a striker that failed to make an impression at Oldham? It didn't need much, just secure a championship level striker in case Benteke gets injured or to bring on when we are inevitable chasing a game. You can see lower premier league teams targeting Benteke for some rough treatment, knowing that without him we have no options up front. Well done for getting Sakho and keeping Cabaye and Townsend, but for me a awful transfer window. Who knows where the goals will come from. Steve Parish should hold his hands up and admit he got his transfer policy wrong this summer.

I personally think we should pick up Remy on a free. Depends how Wickham is doing with his recovery though.
