I welcome DF back. Like almost all Palace I was angry when he left but it's time to move on. Something I've always rated highly in our club is the way we keep our identity. Past players still part of that Palace family. Makes a positive change from the cynical goings on in other Premier clubs. Well done SP. Dougie will be a great help to FDB and help him get up to speed with the Premier League and English football. Be positive!

That was my first thought-- will Frank be able to understand a word he says-- However, I am so pleased with this announcement, this is all about building our club and a few losses will get forgotten when it is turned around and the play gets stronger, we will grow in stature, Frank will be a success and I have long since forgiven Dougie although I did not think that possible at one time.

Id imagine FdB has realized he needs help finding gems as he doesn't have the budget here, least this summer anyway. Parish knows full well back in the day if dougie was good at one thing it was buying players, hes out of work, probably a similar age and character (both quite serious types, might get along well). I think it could work very well. Different buying cut-price players to play in the Championship and finding "Gems" at relative low prices to be effective in the PL.

But id say most of whom he discovered have been capable in the premiership in that first season. Your right though, much more difficult to find the required quality from leagues below for the prem, im sure there must be a couple of Dele Ali's out there, perhaps look in the Irish league too.

Hope it's not a publicity stunt to pease supporters about the lack of spending. Oh and dougie you got your boots for Tuesday night.

I bear no grudge and glad to see him back. Got a great eye for a player and could well be a premier league manager come February.

In my opinion all this means is Parish (Slippery shoulders) now has someone to blame for such a poor transfer window, Don't see anyone who will improve the team coming in now, If he had done something like this back at the end of May 2017 fine. Mr Frustrated Originally posted by Master Coin
For reasons best known only to SP, Dougie is back at the club as sporting director. Thoughts?

I can't really get my head around this one. Irrespective of what the SD's name is it's the role that I am questioning..... We currently have a Manager,Head of Recruitment plus Teflon Phil and a full coaching staff. So what exactly would the Sporting Director actually do?
