"Those performances" we're achieved with a system the team was comfortable with and, as those results showed, turned out to be rather good at. We're now entering uncharted territory with the same team, with the only additions an inexperienced 21 year old and a 20 year old reserve with no PL experience whatsoever. In those circumstances a wise man would be well advised to hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst. Your still getting confused with the "new" system, the above performances were based on 5 at the back especially Chelsea.

As for the three friendlies so far, we're set up to play 3-4-3, but as someone pointed out on another thread, we frequently go to 7-3 when we're put under pressure. The idea that we're playing the same formation under FdB as we were under Allardyce is patently wrong. Are you seriously suggesting that De Boer is transitioning to the Allardyce system?
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

At the moment we seem to be putting all of our faith in Wilf remaining injury free for the Season and turning it on in every game. Does FdB have a Plan B ? He was very upset at the treatment that Wilf received from WBA but this is England's Premier League and is very different from Holland. Wilf is different class now from most PL defenders and he will be targeted in every game. Let's hope that the Refs and reporters respect this and give him more protection rather than accusing him of diving each time he gets clattered.

Completely underwhelmed Fully understand that transfer market has a domino effect once one player moves but Palace over the past 5 years have never bought early and therefore give no chance to bed in before the season starts Presently parts of our squad are a little threadbare Goalkeepers - WH & JS To maintain a 10th to 15th position in Premier League we need cover! The general consensus is that we are still light on a keeper, RB/RWB, striker and maybe another CB. Regarding our likely squad, how much can be gleaned from the Metz starting line up on Saturday? Of the starting lineup- Hennessey, Milivojevic, Dann, Riedewald, Townsend, Van Aanholt, Puncheon, Loftus-Cheek, Zaha, Lokilo, Benteke - and the subs - Speroni, Ward, Delaney, Tomkins, Schlupp, Kelly, Kirby, Wan-Bissaka, Philips, Lapado. the wild cards are obviously....Kirby, Wan-Bissaka, Philips, Lapado and Lokilo. We are not associated with many players in the transfer so I am starting to think we really are not in for that many players. So how many of these will end up in the squad? Who actually makes the grade? I really don't know these players- does anyone? If we have talented youth shouldn't we give them a go?

Currently it looks a little stretched in certain areas. We need a gk and a striker as a matter of urgency.

That would be just 50% of total intake in summer signings in 2016/17 season Suppose that is not bad when you are trying to plan for the new season & team formation! Originally posted by alaneagle1

Trouble with last summer is we didn't do anything of note after Benteke and ignored obvious vulnerable areas. However great the signings were, and by and large they were once Pardew fecked off (with his enhanced pay off following the contract extension mistake), we were vulnerable in areas in an 11 man team sport needing at least some cover.

I agree. This window is not about the 'stellar' signings of last Summer, when we got Benteke and Townsend but should be about plugging the 'thin' areas with good -if not necessarily £30million - players. I'd spunk money on a solid defender though, but I feel any striker we bring in can't be one at huge expense as he will likely have to be a back-up to Tekkers (and even a fit Wickham).

The squad is worse than the one we finished last season with, and are going to be expected to play a 'better' brand of football. Without new signings I think we will struggle again.
