Also think we should have comfort in the fact FdB was a defender and as such he won't over look that aspect of our game.

Yep, a world class defender at that. By contrast, Pardew was a s*** midfielder.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Our last attempt at passing football ended up with us passing until we lost it, usually near our goal (Jedinak). But that was under Pardew.
Frank hopefully will coach what we already have and improve them. We have talented players already and it has been frustrating to watch some previously good players turn bad due to bad management.
We have yet to see if fdb can succeed in passing his philosophy to the squad but if he can lets just enjoy the ride.

Pardew had us faffing bout with the ball in front of our own goal, which just invited instant pressure when the ball was lost. From what I've read, FdB likes his teams to play possession in front of their goal, with the transition from defense to attack being achieved with the greatest of speed, preferably via the wings.

If that is truly his philosophy, and he brings it to Selhurst, I think we're going to be glad something something.

I am not sure he has the personnel quite yet to do that but I am sure he will look to get there. The important thing for me is that he doesn't try to change things too quickly. That is where it can all go wrong. Use our strengths and then work in training on the new philosophy and slowly bring it in.

Now imagine either this year or next we could lure Bergkamp on to the coaching staff as well! Mmmmm

Trevor Francis and Peter Taylor used to be flair players

- or sooner if we try to play all-out attack from the start - we know it to be suicidal. As for him coaching us in 'total football'
we ain't Ajax, Dutch, part of Cruyff's legacy or anything like it
half the team can't pass intelligently (some not at all) or get into strategic positions, and can't be taught.
This is why pragmatism (Pulis, Allardyce) worked for us - play to the team's strengths (fast clever wingers and strong CF), eliminate the grosser weaknesses (ie learn how to bleedin' defend!)
Pragmatism only works for so long. Parish wants the team to play entertaining football, I believe that has allways been his approach unfortunately that is extremely hard to achieve in the Premier League as was seen last season in how many teams were in danger of relegation last April. It could have been anyone from 10 teams.
Pardew tried and failed maybe Frank de Boere can bring it off. The current squad with a couple of replacements is capable of changing style.
Benteke will score 15-20 goals a season and Cabaye is the brains in midfield. Zaha creates problems for defenders just needs to accept that he is not going to get the protection he deserves from the referees and go into a stropp.
A good central defender and right back and we have the nucleus of a good team.
I think this is a very promising appointment. Hoping that he can have an influence on the junior players and get them playing good football, that filters all the way down not just the first team.
I am feeling very positive for the future. Allerdyce done the job he was brought in to do but for me was an expensive backward step that paid dividends.

I think he will be a legend just like Sir Steve, he will be here for years and yeas, leave and come back again because he loves us so much and will do for evermore!

To the contrary. I think Puncheon will have to adapt really quickly to keeping the ball and not giving it away. That is his only fault. Everything else is top draw.

Just a couple of points:

The Ajax first eleven when he was manager had either 5 or 6 non-dutch players depending on formation & they included a German, a Serb, a South African & one or two Danes. The bench, however, was mainly Dutch kids from the academy.

In each season he was in charge, Ajax had the best defensive record in the league but were not top scorers - not an indicator of "all-out attack". Reading some write ups, especially early in his managerial career, it seems he is as big a fan of the clean sheet as Sam was.

In Ajax's big results (Barca in Champions League etc) the reports all point to one great strength which is defending and attacking as a team. Sam had us working toward this already so if FdB can build on that, add some control & a touch of flair & we could realistically establish ourselves as an EPL team.

We can but hope.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!
