I'm less than impressed by Diane Abbott as a front bencher. I don't doubt she is a good constituency MP,But,imagine if a class A buffoon like Boris Johnson was subject to the same level and type of of critique as her every day... Why isn't he but she is? Now,that's an interesting question Edited by legaleagle (13 Jun 2017 10.58pm)

When he got stuck on the high wire springs to mind. Ultimately, though, perhaps he just comes across as a more likeable kind of fella.

Personally I've always considered the criticism of 'insert person I don't like' for mis-steps in interviews as overblown and diversionary. If politics were about electing the very best minds then it wouldn't be a popularity contest but an IQ test with expert judges. Of course ability is important but choosing your advisors wisely is more important than knowing the price of milk or whatever stat the media wants to throw at you. It's a circus and little else. That said people are perfectly entitled to dislike Abbot without the rather pointless inferred comeback 'is it because I'm black'? Sasha Cohen was taking the p1ss out of that argument over a decade ago..... but we can always expect 'progressives' to like their 'goto' political clichés. The point could easily be argued that the only reason Abbott has traveled so far in the Labour party is less to do with her ability and much more to do with her race....Which is racism to whichever person, of a different race, she blocked if they had better ability...Pick your angle but it's all the same diversionary argument. Second guessing intent is pointless, better to deal with the actual points. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Jun 2017 1.10am)

There have always been Marxists in the labour party and its origins lie within Marxism and trade unionism. I don't see anything wrong with that. Quite a few senior members of Labor over the years have been ex communist party members.

Perhaps they should publicise their communist links more then - no doubt many people would rally to the red flag. However, if they think Marxist policies will work here despite failing everywhere else they have been tried, they might be in for a disappointment. Meanwhile the 'intelligent' left will be telling them not to lose faith, just needs a bit of fine tuning, just need to get rid of all the unintelligent enemies of the people who are sabotaging the glorious plans as set out in the holy scriptures of the great prophet Karl Marx (blessings on his gulags).
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

A chimp would probably play better in terms of PR. Look a Bush jr and Trump. People now fondly remember the shaved chimp in a suit.
