I'd have at least waited until we'd made a managerial appointment before making a decision to renew his contract. It's not like he was going anywhere and there's a whole stack of such decisions to be made. The question you always need to ask yourself is, if he wasn't already here and we were looking at him, even as a free transfer, would you add him to the squad? Surely this is to ensure we have enough home grown players in the squad. Can't think of any other reason why he'd be offered a new contract.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

I hope we gave him a new contract to sell him on because he won't be getting anywhere near the first eleven. He has never been Premier League quality.

I agree - if we don't have a manager why start offering contracts to players a new manager might not want? Also, I hope he actually plays for us and isn't shipped off to Millwall or the clowns.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Jonny Williams new deal' by kenbarr Doesn't stop Palace sending Jonny out on loan again once they have finished assessing him. However they must already feel there is some merit in offering him a new contract it is only a years extension in real terms and perhaps a little more money summer 2019 as opposed to summer 2018 which was his existing contract end. Also as it has been said keeps us a salable asset should we wish to cash in.

Unfortunatly he is not good enough and is sadly always injured. Can you think of any other Premier League team that would have JW in their squad. He struggled at Ipswich to get a game.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Jonny Williams new deal' by kenbarr Very sad situation with Johnny. We could all see the potential he had years ago but injury has stopped that from developing. You gotta be kidding if you think we would get £4-5m for him... I wouldn't pay more than £2m for him if I'm honest based on his injuries and lack of game time the last 3 years.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Sorry but sometimes you have to cut your loses. Yet it's OK to give Zaha £110K per week?

He struggled at Ipswich to get a game. A squad only needs eight homegrown players, and we haven't started the recruitment and retention process yet, so I can't really see that as being the reason.

On the loan point (and sorry if I've got this wrong) if we continue to loan him out then presumably the borrowing (?) club pays his wages, ergo he wouldn't be costing us anything. (Or maybe the medical costs remain ours?)

Strikes me as sentiment ruling over common sense but what do I know, maybe medical science has fixed him and he's been incredible in training.
