I accept from other people's comments that a terrorist would have used the train which took people to the concert or waited outside if they wanted to carry out an act like this. But to have no security on the doors of an arena where thousands of people are gathered en masse is ludicrous. Can't eradicate the risk of course you can't but at least make it more difficult or restrict the places where it could happen. Madness.

Unfortunately there are many who will use the opportunity for their own agenda, on Twitter I have seen everything from a government conspiracy to keep May in power to every Muslim should be deported. Little thought given to the victims

I agree with you there are lots of situations which cannot be prevented. The tube, a bus , shopping centre, public street the list is absolutely endless. If a terrorist wants to kill people htey will find a way. Totally agree . At the time daybreak said it happened INSIDE the arena. Hence my comments. It does appear from other people's comments it was in the public part before you enter security so I accept there's little which could have been done. But airport style security at concerts and sporting events I certainly wouldn't have a problem with. I have commented a few times on this site about the woeful bag searches which take place at games. A case of open the zip and glance in . Children are paid no attention to at all. It wouldn't take much for something like this to happen at a football ground somewhere. And yes I do have a big problem with people spouting some of the things I have read this morning. Ban Islam in the UK. Send them all home and their families and their parent, grandparents . Shut the boarders now is a favourite one. I don't know what the answers are. I readily admit that otherwise I would be working in some role for the government and intelligence services if I did. But I do know that shouting shut the boarders and ban Islam in this country isn't helpful and isn't going to do anything. Did people really say things like this when the ira were in full swing? Ban Catholicism, send all the Irish home , shut the boarders. Did they? I think if we had airport like security everywhere we would definitely cause huge delays and in effect limit the size of people who attend events. The Joshua fight recently had over eighty thousand people at it. I'm not sure that could happen. I think it would be another encroachment on having to change our way of life. I think that the level of security we have is probably about right...A person carrying carrying a large rucksack or bag should always be checked....We need to follow the technology though obviously. I agree anyone talking about banning religions or shutting the boarders is living in fantasy land. But I understand the anger and they have a right to feel it. Mainstream Islam does need reform. Islamic reformers have been saying this for a long time. They are regularly attacked for it. Attacks like this are from an extremist section from within that religion and we need to be more determined than ever in tacking them. This problem isn't reducing unless we actually tackle it. Followers of Islam double as a percentage of our population roughly every ten years. So inaction or just carrying on as before just means the attack frequency will increase. I do worry for the secular state in this country. Not in my time but for my kids or maybe theirs. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 May 2017 9.07am)

Just had a couple of women on there talking about how upsetting it is and they won't be stopped from going about their lives by this and he's railroading straight over the top s*** stirring. Asking how they can feel safe, how they can let their kids out. Keeps saying we should all feel angry. This woman is saying how isn't the time for anger and he's telling her she's wrong and it is. Horrible odious man. Totally understand anger but he's a reporter on a national tv channel and needs to get on with reporting and leave his personal thoughts and feelings in the dressing room. Think of how many concerts there are every day all over the world, how many trains , buses , tubes run. This is incredibly rare and shouldn't stop people going out today and going about their business.

Some of the theme parks and stadia in the U.S.have already gone down this route. All have bag searches & random personal searches going on but some have now installed the metal detectors etc you find at airports. The secret is to have plenty & to have them far enough from the actual main entrance that you can manage the flow of people and any situation is contained away from the main gathering. Yes it slows the process up but not by much & because you know it's there you don't rock up at the last minute & expect to walk straight in. Personally, I don't want to go down that road but it is certainly doable with the right level of investment & manpower.

Very sad news. Was in Manchester Sunday for the football and it was heaving with people and not just for the football the high street was full of shoppers. This guy could have blown himself up anywhere and caused as many fatalaties if not more. The fact he targeted a venue full of mainly children and teenagers is all the more sickening.

Well your last sentence shows that you aren't only angry but completely wrong. He doesn't wish death on people. I think your anger is misdirected.

It's just dawned on me that we were talking about it being the anniversary of Lee Rigby's murder in my local last night. Coincidence or does the 22nd May have some significance somewhere? No, I think that occurred to mark a significant date in the Islamic F**kwad calander.
