Over on the FYP Extra Time Podcast [Link] they asked the question "Was the season a success or a failure?". Whilst two thought it was a failure, I think it depends on how you view it. Had Pardew remained and got us relegated it would have been an unmitigated disaster. Had Pardew remained and we had finished 14th then I still think that would have been a disastrous season. However, our season was so shambolic that I don't think it can be seen as one season and as such, looking at things since Christmas, I think 14th under Big Sam has to be seen as a success. I for one am happy with 14th in the light of where we appeared to be headed but like most others have said, I wouldn't want to see us do this again next season.
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |

For me great season for the club, the relegation battle and change of manager/staff and players has brought the heart back to the Palace, the fans regained their voice and back the team when needed and with that and the fantastic job big Sam and the backroom staff did installed the confidence that we had under pullis , going into these big games with our back against the walls and fighting out results against the odds. The board needed to spend In Jan and they did they brought in players that improved the team so fair play for them for making those signings and also getting rid of pardew and getting Sam in even tho so many people (especially on here) thought it was a bad move for the club. Next year we will have to improve the squad again no doubt and I'm sure after this years scare Steve parish will back the signings sam wants but on paper our first 11 is a top half team when everyone's fit and there's no reason we can't improve next year. -providing we keep zaha who has been by a country mile our best player the last 2 years. I knew we would stay up, we was always better than the 3 that went down but I was a huge critic of benteke, however 32 mill for 15 goals for the season ain't bad in today's market. It's all Just my opinion , everyone's got one but I for one a Buzzing to get back to it next season and so happy with the outcome this year even if we did loose to the united under 20s ! EAGLESSS

Sometimes you are defending with eleven men and in that case the more lampposts you can put in your own penalty area the better, irrespective of their "normal" jobs. Tekers used to hang about like a spare Pardew at a wedding in those situations but now he polices the near post at corners.

There have been some bright moments. Gusset's done sterling work on the left wing, Hrolf has more than held his own on the right. Part Time James was always trying to get in the box (Michaela's box) and Willo, after being found out very early on, will complete his loan spell from Brighton and return to his parent club.

Still no comment from "Willo" on lack of protection for Wilf from refs, especially last "Sunday".

All in all not an untypical Palace season, the usual rollercoaster. The major job has been done and hopefully with keeping the right personnel and adding others we can improve next season. I'd like us to use all available transfer windows from now on even if we are doing particularly well, as we can't let them slip and need to improve our squad at every opportunity. Also expect us to be a lot quicker out of the blocks under Allardyce who will move us forward, perhaps not as quickly for some but he has the pedigree to firmly establish ourselves in this tough league, which we aren't quite there yet in my opinion. Will take 10th-12th position all season. COYP !!

Well, we finished higher than last season. Who'd have thunk it in the darkest days of Pardew?
