He would have forced himself into contention if he were THAT good. Butland's been injured for ages but came back the other week in place of Grant who's been playing well. Top players make it impossible not to select them, obviously Mandanda is not as good as we first hoped, either that or he really does not want to play for us. Edited by Mad4palace (28 Apr 2017 11.40am) So you suggest that Hennessey should/could have been dropped? When hes been playing better than he has ever played for us....how exactly would mandanda FORCE himself back into the team? Its not like he could even get a few minutes as sub is it? Being a keeper is a strange job, if you lose your place through injury as Steve did, and your replacement plays well, its very very difficult to get your place back. Just have to accept that the transfer didnt work out, and buy a decent keeper to be No 1 next year, as Hennessey really isnt good enough, as Wednesday night showed once again. you missed my point. Hennessey's been playing well like Grant at Stoke BUT if you have a top quality keeper like Butland then he forces his deputy out once he's back fit. IF Mandanda were as good as Butland then it shows in training, to the point at which most managers will just put him back in, clearly Mandanda is of similar level to WH and JS that he can't force himself onto the bench even. Top players make it very hard for mangers to leave them out, even keepers, though it is harder for them to force their way back in granted. Cech, Courtois, etc can be out injured but almost instantly force their way back into no 1 when fit.

Maybe the problem is tax and image rights related?

Marseille seem happy to unsettle players and then get them at a knock down price. I think the club should stand firm and make them pay £5m which is the going rate for any semi decent top level keeper. If he's such a great keeper and they want him they should pay the money. I'd have thought that once you take his wages in to account then £5m is what we've probably spent on him.... I bet Marseille think they can tap up any French footballer to get on the cheap now. Stay the f*** away from Cayabe!

Good riddance- obviously has a bad attitude and made it clear he wanted out. The amount of criticism that Hennessy gets and got is ridiculous. Mandanda maybe a better keeper than Hennessy. He wasn't prepared to fight for our club. One big expensive mistake. Hennessy started the season as our number 2 and was called apon due to his injury. Mandanda couldn't even to be bothered to learn English.

I think that the quoted price of 5m is 1m for the player plus a further 4m for conducting their transfer requirements so publically

Its clearly right that as Mandanda is still under contract at Palace that we don't give him away! If Marseille or any other club want him they pay a decent price. If Mandanda gets back to form (and clearly he will want to with the World cup on next year) his value will only go up! I don't think its that he has had a 'bad attitude' it's just that the transfer has not worked out for him moving to England and Mandanda clearly never settled properly.
