In most Arab countries Women are forced to cover up shoulders and knees in public places and regardless of religion you have to abide by this. If we have to respect their laws why should they not respect ours. Take the f***ing thing off your head an show your face. I find them very creepy and it must s*** the lives out of some kids. Because currently it isn't against the law in the UK to wear a 'Burka' or 'Niqab' etc etc and I very much doubt that this will change given we wish to be a civilised society tolerant of different religious beliefs. And you will have spent your life worrying about it instead of wasting time on more enjoyable thoughts. Not having a dig, just sharing my view on it all. I don't worry about it, like I don't worry about the Sun expanding in 8 billion years. But I do believe that walking blindly into disaster is worth discussing and maybe addressing. None of this will affect me personally but I hope that those that come after can live in a country that still retains the qualities that I have enjoyed.

I hate seeing people wearing a burka, in my view it shows the oppression of women. However, I have no idea if my view is true or not. I seriously can't imagine why any women would want to wear one but perhaps they do. I would make it illegal for anyone to be forced to wear a burka but that is probably illegal already and how on earth would you enforce it?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Think about what it means in the context of Western society and how much women have had to strive to gain equality. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (24 Apr 2017 11.05am)

I totally disagree. The things you list are not comparable.

Thanks, that's interesting, particularly this bit. "Some women wear it because they strongly believe it is their religious obligation," she said. Dr Ismail does concede that some women may be pressured into covering themselves. "There is a possibility that some husbands would tell their wives 'please wear the niqab, I don't want any other men to see you' which is possessive," she said. "When it comes to that, the problem is not the niqab, it is being married to someone who is possessive and oppressive." However, I still find it quite hard to believe.

Add to it the turban, the skull-cap etc. Personally I don't give a fig about Burkas,Niqabs etc etc. They don't upset or offend me. Edited by Willo (24 Apr 2017 11.10am)

I agree - like visa free travel and the ability to live and work across the EU. Oh wait...
