You don't even actually need to be 'a traveller' to experience that. I think humans are basically a semi-sentient means of transit and sustenance for micro organisms. Effectively, we're the buffet car for viruses and bacteria. Makes it pointless to worry about which buffet car is superior or preferable. Edited by jamiemartin721 (29 Mar 2017 4.40pm) Speciesist!

Maybe you just did one antagonism too many. People don't like it when facts get in the way of prejudice.

That is one way to see it but you might also be living in a bigger house. The key thing here is motivation. If the chap genuinely believes that the nature of his tenants affects him financially then it isn't really racism in reality, despite what the law might say. The guy is a business man and I'm sure he would rent to Martians if he could squeeze more money out of them. Racial prejudice isn't rational though. Regardless of what kind of business man he is, business law exists to keep us all reasonably honest (or at least appear reasonably honest). Arguably he's not a very good business man if he's come out and said that, as he's looking likely to end up being sued and facing legal charges.

Not in this case. Businesses are part of society, and should be bound by the laws, and serve society, not the individual whims of their owners. Keeps trade free and fair. Any law that compels an individual to act in a manner that is contrary to their own conscience or beliefs is a bad law. It is a denial of a basic human right, i.e. to do business or not do business with whomever an individual pleases. Society is not served by such law. People have always discriminated, be it against gingers, people with tattoos, w@nkers in skinny jeans or whatever. Always have, always will. We've argued this point before, you and I. There must be multiple laws that people probably frequently break (e.g. marijuana use, consensual S&M, etc etc) and are over-oppressive but you don't get the outraged hoohah about it when people do it.

It doesn't compel a person, it compels a business which in effect employs any number of people, all of whom will have different ideals and beliefs. Businesses are not people. And who's ideals should prevail - the owners, or the staff? What if my boss wants me to do something I think is immoral or against my beliefs, but compatible with theirs? You know why the law exists, its to prevent discrimination against individuals in society from prejudice. The clue is even in the thread title.
