you may say it will take a miracle for Hull to catch us. But nasty miracles do happen in football all the time. however, it will take two or three miracles, hull swansea bournemouth....to relegate us. Even another draw may be enough to keep us up.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

as i said. Nasty miracles do happen. 3 relegation rivals got a win today. This may push up the number of points we will need to be safe.

The magic number stays the same no? We just have less games to get to it.. we expected both swansea and hull to get in and around 9-10 points they just got points we would've hoped they'd drop.

The magic number is the number of points required by Palace for safety, assuming that the 18th place club wins all of their remaining games. At the moment that's Swansea, on 31 points, who could reach a total of 43. Palace are on 35, so the magic number is 8 (43-35). Properly, you'd add one to avoid a 'draw', but with our superior goal difference finishing on the same number of points would be OK.

After yesterday I think its a very difficult ask for Boro and S'land now. So you envisage Swansea and Hull winning their remaining games and that's right they don't play each other also. I actually think Palace play well against the top teams but we don't have their resources to cover injuries. So 8 points from 6 games would give 43. Here we go .... COYP

Think about it this way. Swansea have games remaining against: Man Utd ( A ) To be safe they need to win one and draw two, (not impossible) but they will also need us to lose our remaining six. For every point we can scrape their job is a little more difficult. We are not guaranteed safety, but Swansea will need to be a very different team for their final four fixtures. If Man U lose the derby all their eggs will be in the Europa, Everton are a different side away from home and are just a Europa team nowm Sunderland are down and WBA in sunnier climes

6 points this week and Swansea lose to Man Utd and we're home and dry. Not easy, but probably more likely than us losing every game left. Originally posted by highbury eagle

The 'magic number' is just a theoretical total required for mathematical safety at any given point. It takes no account of form, who is playing who, or anything else, other than points available to the 18th placed side. We are clearly at an advantage, but it doesn't hurt to know the worst case scenario.
