We can stay up plenty of games left and only 2 points between 6 teams. Trouble I have is the team's confidence is shot to bits and they shake like a jelly at Selhurst. It'll be a miracle if they get out of it but he's to hope.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

I'd still say that SA hasn't fielded the team he really wants yet. If we can right that against Boro then it's in our hands.

Yes, it looks negative now, but we still have:

Leicester
Watford
Burnley
Boro
Hull

All at home. That is massive. Do the business (13 pts out of 15 maybe?) then it should only leaves us needing to scrape a couple of draws in the other games.

And how long have you supported us? We will get naff all from those games. We will get our points but not from where one would expect. It is as it is and our hearts will take a pounding. Hold on to your hats

No it's not being realistic at all, as the OP said it's just negativity. FFS the fat lady hasn't even warmed up yet let alone start singing.

It's a good job that those of you that have given up weren't alive when Dunkirk happened as you will all have been down on the beaches waving the white flag. Sadly that never say die, never give up spirit is sadly lacking among most of the posters on this forum.

Where do you think we will finish, and who do you think will go down?

To be honest it could be touch and go but I think we will finish above the bottom three.

I have seen us seek re-election to stay in the league, seen us drop into the founding fourth division and then rise up to the top and fall again. II watched the Stockport game where Dougie saved us from relegation and the Sheff W. Both of those games were away but we survived by the skin of our teeth admittedly but survive we did.

I won't give up hope until it's mathematically impossible for us stay up, only wish a lot of posters would do the same.

I don't remember ever feeling this negative about our chances so early in the season (and I've been going since the 70s). I don't know why that is, but I even switched off the mobile data on my phone on Saturday to avoid any messages about the score etc, and took my Mum to Sainsbury instead, not for reasons I may once have done (to save the surprise of watching MotD in the evening) but simply because I had no optimism about the result and feared it would just give me the raging hump and ruin the weekend.

I couldn't resist for long, and checked the result at the end of the rugby, but that's an instant "lost again" rather than the long drawn out death by a thousand cuts that I experience if I get regular updates on how badly we are playing. In a strange way, at least being at the Sunderland game (until the bitter end) gave a chance to vent a little and, more importantly, all hope was gone in 5 minutes, so you could just chuckle at the ineptitude on display as another ball was knocked over the top by the back 4 to nobody in particular

I wouldn't be surprised at all if you're right.

The wider point is that for all the negativity, the situation is still very much in our own hands. We're not 10 points adrift with the teams above all winning. We still have to play most of them at home, and there enough other games that offer 'bonus' points that we can still do this.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

There is a big difference between "negativity" and "realism". Like some other HOL members I have been a Palace supporter since the 1950s so I have seen us come and go in every division. I desperately want us to stay in the top tier, use the Premier wealth to make our stadium worthy of top-flight football and all the rest of it.

At the moment and for most of this season I have been watching a very poor team which does not look capable of staying in the top flight. As has also been said a thousand thousand times, with Palace, you never really know. We could suddenly hit form and start climbing back to safety. "Realistically" that looks most unlikely.

We've just lost 4-0 to the bottom of the table side who then in turn lose 4-0 to an in and out Southampton side. Its hard to be positive

We need luck now and a lot of it.

I think we have been very lucky this season that so many teams have been equally as poor. Given our form we should have been adrift at the bottom but we are not. Our luck has to change, Performance at Stoke was much better but i take nothing from that as we looked good at Bournmouth then put that performance in against Sunderland. We simply have to beat Boro to get us going.

It is perfectly reasonable to have a sense impending doom based on our form and remaining fixtures but such negative feelings must not be transferred to the players on match days.
We have a chance to stay up and until we don't, there is nothing to be gained and everything to be lost by a lack of support during games.
