Whilst I don't much fancy Samba myself, didn't he spend a few years playing with Scott Dann at Blackburn? He might just be an inspired signing. Of course, he might also not be, but the same could be said for all the players that we are signing regardless of how much they cost.

Cannot understand what all the fuss is about. The guy is just coming for a trial. If he is any good we will probably sign him, if he isn't, we wont. What's the problem? These things sometimes work out, after all we took Delaney after Ipswich released him and that hasn't worked out too badly, has it?

If we can get someone on a free who can do a good job for 4 months, we save a loan spot for someone better. Samba clearly was a good CB, who has had a lot of injuries, but might just be on the way back. Worth finding out, so a trial not a bas idea

It sounds like he has a lot to do to prove he deserves a deal, if he isn't even fit enough to train! But if he does it then the coaching staff can presumably evaluate whether he would bring anything to the team.

But why bother giving a trial to the player in the first place? He's not going to rediscover his fitness, form and motivation. He'd need game time to get up to scratch and our first team can't afford to carry anyone let alone a defender. Then there's the message having a player like him - even on trial - sends to the fans, media and rest of the footballing world. I'm with most of the other posters on this thread - if this is the type of player we're looking at then we are truly f**ked.

Effectively his agent has probably given Sam a call saying Samba is available and BFS has probably said well we are not in the market for a CB but send him down for a trial and see how he does. Any deal would likely be on a free and be for backup. Don't forget we only have 4 CB's at the club atm and if we are playing 3 5 2 only leaves one spare. No need to start bad mouthing parish and the manager because we have given a player a bloody trial

It seems a bit harsh to be sending Chris Samba to hell in a handcart when all he's doing is having a trial! For sure, his career has gone downhill since he left Blackburn, but he would have to prove he's worth a contract before he's offered one. Any contract is likely to be short term for effectively a 4th/5th choice centre back. Sam Allardyce managed him for a couple of years at Blackburn so knows what he could potentially offer on and off the pitch. It seems to be a low risk, low cost option not dissimilar to Alan Pardew signing Shola Ameobi.

he's only on trial. worth having a look. with his injuries in recent years, he'd need to be fit. if the trial doesnt work out, no harm done.
