We have big trouble ahead and relegation is a big possibility, we are weak in defence, have limited ability in midfield and have a bundle of strikers who just cannot score. Pardew's ability has to be questioned as he never seems to learn from previous errors and he has now been found out by most of the current PL coaches who seem to be able to undo our defence at will, we have holes everywhere and whilst the investment in the team has been huge in Palace terms, we have more cover in strikers who cannot score and virtually no quality cover in a bout every other department. The run of poor form since the start of 2016 continues and the current coaching team seems to be able to do nothing about it!

What do you suggest we do then?

Let's consider the recruitment : Zaha is better on the right and likes to play on the right and we sign Townsend who also prefers to play down there and is better out there coming in and shooting with his left-foot.

There have been question marks about whether Mandanda is an improvement on Hennessey.Much was expected when Cabaye signed and he hasn't lived up to expectations.Flamini has been signed but hardly featured at all.We signed Wickham when his injury record was well known and the rest as they say is history.
Delaney is 34 and in the "Twilight" of his career and to-date the "Jury is out" on Tomkins.
The only proper left-back cover for Souare is Fryers and he has hardly established himself at our club.
You can go back to the days of the likes of Adebayor, Amoebi,Bamford !
Also what has Mutch done ? Or indeed Sako ?

Could be a long hard season for us.

that what Pardew and the others in his team get paid to do and if they cannot deliver then the board have to take action to try and prevent further damage, to do nothing and bury your head in the sand is the worst outcome, the record since the start of 2016 is there for all to see!

I have an issue with certain drills right now. Obviously defending corners isn't good and gifting free throws another. Cr&p corners and how other teams surround our player yet we cannot do 2 on 1. Very slow to loose and 2nd balls. We're not as sharp or prepared or competitive enough.

Very good post Rudi, say what you link about TP at least we were well drilled.

Bring back Brolin

Remy could be back at the perfect time, who knows, we may have a decent partnership. He who dares Rodney.

I think the real issue is with recruitment and that cannot be blamed on Pardew alone.

Clubs like Southampton and Leicester have a great recruitment team led by Les Reed at Saints and Steve Walsh previously at Leicester now been poached by one of the big teams.

What have we in terms of scouting and recruitment in place? We used to have a Director of Football ( not sure what he ever did? ) but he resigned over some scandal at Cardiff, now what have we got?

That centre back for Liverpool Matip came on a free, he looked very good, obviously scouted by someone at Liverpool who saw his potential, apparently they got him in April and worked on him during the summer, now fits into their team.

Its suits some people to blame everything on Pardew, but he doesn't do everything at the club. Now whilst we have done really well to get where we are, the infrastructure at the club has faults.

Blaming Pardew after every defeat is pointless, as if we get a new manager the same will happen again, until we improve our recruitment policy.

You make some excellent points.

My comments weren't an Anti-Pardew rant - I was just being critical of some of our recruitment. I accept that having an excellent recruitment set-up like that of Leicester/ Southampton is absolutely vital.

We didn't really expect a result yesterday and the bin dippers team is as good as they have been in years. We have a first 11 that is capable of anything from 17th to 8th and the first 11 i'm guessing is still a work in progress. The main area that has troubled us for a long time is a quality bench. Yesterdays bench looked better but only because Punch and Townsend did not start.
Center half need sorting and a new addition or two in midfield. The Jury is out for me on Mandanda instead of Henessey but lets see how the next 3 games go. As long as we stay up and continue the improvement ill be happy.
As for Pardew. We all knew he was a hot and cold manager when he arrived. Perhaps we are a season or two too early for this transitional period and we should have left that until we have quality players in all positions that can cope with transition. It all seems a bit happy and friendly!!! Someone said it before Pulis football was not great but the team were well drilled. We seem to be missing a govnor and have a team of happy mates.

I wasn't having a pop at you being anti Pardew. Just your post led in nicely to my points about recruitment.

2015 - 38 games 63 points at an average of 1.65 per game
2016 - 29 games 22 points at an average of 0.76 per game

2015 - mainly an inherited side; 2016 - mainly Pardew's choices with a lot of money spent.
