No-one seems to have mentioned Paint Your Wagon, especially where he sings I Talk to the Trees.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Sorry to dig up an old thread and I love all Big Clint's films. The lot. Unforgiven, even Paint Your Wagon but it's Kelly's Heroes for me.
Especially Burning Bridges....

It had one of the best lines too....

...'A Sherman can give you a very nice...edge..'

I think he's the greatest film star ever.
Not the greatest film actor (although some of his roles would suggest otherwise) but certainly the greatest film star in my life time. A very accomplished director too.
I'll be genuinely upset when he's gone.

sorry if anybody else has mentioned this, but 'the beguiled' has been re-made with colin 'o'farrel'.
not keen on him personally but its been done by the lady copolla and has a decent cast.
probably buggered it up.
I quiet liked clints film of this.

The Beguiled was a great film. Very dark. Play Misty For Me too.

In an era when John Wayne is lauded...and I can't believe he could ever be compared to Eastwood...
You may have gathered that I'm a bit of a fan.

I apologised for being rude to you...

It's a great thread. I love Clint.
I've even sat in the pictures watching some of his worst...Firefox. That wasn't good.
And I wasn't keen on Escape From Alcatraz either. Although Patrick Mcgoohan put in a decent turn.

Kelly's Heroes will forever be my favourite though. And when you hold up the likes of Dirty Harry, The Good, The Bad and the Brighton, Unforgiven and their ilk, that's saying something.

The unforgiven is great. Bridges of Madison county... already written loads about how much I cry watching that one

Wadda girl.

All joking aside, I really don't think there's anyone that comes near to him. He's done the lot.
Drama, comedy ( I was just a little boy when I saw Every Which Way But Loose and I laughed more at Clyde than I should have really. Looking back), tough man, straight man...everything. He's even shagged Sondra Locke! I bet that took some doing! Rather him than me.

Brilliant

It would be easier to say which ones are not very good as there are very few of those.

His later films are more mature in every sense but also a little depressing at times. I will never watch The Changeling again.(He was not acting that one of course)

The ones I could watch endlessly are probably;

Magnum Force
Escape From Alcatraz
Every which Way but Loose/You Can
Sudden Impact
Bridges Of Madison County
Thunderbolt And Lightfoot
The Eiger Sanction.
Play Misty For Me.

Many others I could watch most days, The Dollars Trilogy of course and some of his later movies like In the Line of Fire, Absolute Power,Unforgiven Gran Torino and Blood Work are very enjoyable. The only ones I don't like particularly are Bronco Billy, Joe Kidd and the awful Dead Pool.

Edit, and I absolutely hate Kelly's Heroes.

He has done a ton of blinders.

All the westerns are superb with the Leone trilogy being the pinnacle. Can't pick a winner from the 3. Coming just under is High Plains Drifter and
Lesser ones for me would be Unforgiven, two mules for sister Sarah & Hang em high - but they're still excellent.
I'm a bit of a western nut though

Other non western highlights
The Beguiled
Play Misty for me
Thunderbolt & Lightfoot
Escape from Alcatraz

The Dirty Harrys are all worth seeing but a bit dated now

Was massively dissapointed with Gran Torino

So was I actually.
I'd take exception with you over Dirty Harry though.
