With Murray in the squad we finished 11th and 10th, and last season without him we finished 15th. Parish admitted it was a mistake letting him go.

Think some said FFP concerns contributed to his departure brought on by Parish wanting Sako

What exactly was he doing in the squad to make the team finish 11th & 10th? Assistant manager?

Personally I think Parish has been trying to overhaul the squad for a while hence taking money for aging players when he can and letting them move on.

Yes he held his hands up that Murray timing wasn't ideal. But sometimes you have to move them when the option is there.

Same with Jedi and to a lesser extent Gayle. On top of that everyone else that has been moved on. Has made space for the current squad we have now.

Which on paper is bloody brilliant for us.

But of course the golden ticket would be if Murray was still here.

Wonder if we could get him back in Jan?

No doubt someone will still be whinning for him then.

All the above.

While not agreeing with all that the OP has said, it's provoked a debate of sorts.

My conclusion is this :

Wickham was brought in as an alternative to Murray, but turned out he didn't have Murray's goalscoring instincts
Murray was sold at a fee that was too good to refuse although we didn't have proper back up for him.
Benteke and Remy have been signed to remedy the lack of goals - suggesting that the manager does not think his previous tactics and reliance on Wickham are worth persevering with.

The new TV deal has seen transfer fees spiral to new heights. The £9m paid for Wickham didn't look value for money a year ago, but now looks in keeping for a Premiership striker that is no longer guaranteed a starting place but is very much part of a squad.

I would like to congratulate the OP

It has been a testy time on here recently with lots of cards being dished out. People who previously got on well falling out and lots of drama from all sides.

In one post you have pretty much managed to unify the HOL. Good work

Well Bournemouth finished 16th with Murray, so clearly his power to control the entire fate of a team was already slipping...

Murray and Wickham alone would have sufficed, we wasted soo much time, money and effort it was embarrassing to be a fan, Bournemouth played a different game to the one Murray had here with us and Murray provided them some very useful points that enabled them survival, he knew after that injury he could not play 90 mins anymore but he would have been perfect sharing the game with Wickham which in turn would of helped Wickham with his problems.

It's very important to realise if £9m Connor Wickham had been the player Pardew thought he was (and most people with a clue knew he never would be) we would never have signed Benteke.

We have splashed £32m on the Liverpool flop because Wickham has been absolutely terrible - one of the worst buys in the history of the football club.

In fact, so bad that last season we signed £100,000 a-week Adebayor as our new centre-forward for about four months.

That came on the back of the dreadful Sanogo the season before, who kept Murray out of the team until thankfully he got injured.

By the way Glenn then came in and scored a goal every other game, plus put in one of the best Number 9 displays ever seen at Selhurst Park vs Manchester City.

So, I make that around £43m to replace a Dougie Freedman free transfer.

Keep up the good work Alan!

Not this s*** again.

Christ.

Undoubtably, Murray was a great striker for this club. When he was sold amongst much sentimental consternation he was either at or past the peak of his powers, the wrong side of 30 and ultimately struggled to get into the Bournemouth starting XI.

Anyone who suggests we sold him at the wrong time is wedded to an extreme sense of illogical ill thought out saccharine sentimentality.

Regarding money spent, I'll wait for the overly emotional responses before I lay out the clearly obvious reasons why it's taken so much time money and short term failure to try to land a consistently (hopefully) goal scoring attacking line.

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

..it was the way we used him from the very first Premiership game up until he went that pissed me most, talk about wasting opportunities! every time he came on the opposing team had not a clue what to do with him and he always created fantastic opportunities in the short times he was allowed, the selling of him was just as much a relief for me as it was for him, I could not stand seeing him sitting on the bench whilst Campbell and Gayle fell over each others stupid feet.

Following this kind of logic (or lack of) and it would appear you would rather have Wright and Bright upfront still.
