At the risk of perspective, the very nature of the league means that 3 teams have to be worst and go down. Are there 3 worse teams in the league than us? In terms of individual talent I'd say yes. In terms of tactical nous and team mentality? It's arguable. We have always punched above our weight because we have less talented fighters who put their bodies on the line. This squad? I can see us being outfought by a few 'lesser' teams this season. Perhaps that is where we need to be focussing rather than searching for a magic bullet. Palace are underdogs, we scrap, we live on the edge

Thought he got it spot on today with what he had at his disposal. I'm not one for Pardew out and it's pleasing to see he has taken the learnings and pushed on. Made good subs today and got his reward with the late goal. Looking at the stats, we deserved to win and if it wasn't for a mistake and an debatable offside Defoe goal, I'm sure it would have been a routine win

Fans are quick to moan at AP when he gets it wrong (which he had been) but credit for making changes, adapting and pushing on.

Bring on Everton away, see you up there if your attending (I'll be the guy in the "Pardew 4 ever" palace shirt

Up the palace!!!!!!

Absolute rubbish.

He did the right thing in getting rid of the following players.

Jedinak
Great leader and servant to the club but when we have a fully strength side out, he only makes the bench. 4 million for him was good business.

Bolasie
Absolutely loved the bloke, on his day unplayable, however that is about 1 in 5 games. 28 million for him, great deal for us.

Gayle
10 million is good money for him, and we need a different class of player I.e Benteke to progress.

Granted Pards has made some dodgy decisions in the transfer market, with Mutch being a prime example; however since pards has been here we have signed class players like Cabaye, Mandanda, Benteke and Townsend. This would never of happened under previous managers.

Our current form this calendar year is woeful, however I fully expect super Al to turn it around and have a credible top half finish. Time to get behind the famous red and blue, starting with a win tomorrow.

Super Alan Pardew.

Completely agree. While I do think Pardew's tactics often leave a lot to be desired, and his results are very inconsistent in general, what he's gotten right has been exceptional, the transfer window being the ideal example. In my opinon, as long has he keeps us in the league for the next few years and allows the board to turn us into a proper premier league outfit, I'll back him every step of the way.

Overall, just a great time to be a Palace fan, and certainly the best period supporting the club in my lifetime!

Amazing how many CP 'supporters' lose the perspective about where our little(ish) club sits in the grand scheme of things.

Currently, only the really top teams are above us.

It isn't going to get any better than this until someone who doesn't care about losing money (an Oligarch or Thai Businessman with an ego bigger than his wallet) buys us.

I know last season was tough after Christmas but we still got to the Cup Final (and had the lead for a few minutes).

These are actually the glory days for CPFC. Shame some can't see that wood through the trees of unrealistic expectations.

If either Vardy or Mahrez had been injured for three months last season (like several of our best players), Leicester would have been nowhere near the title. That's the kind of luck that you need when you're not one of the really big teams. Only those teams are above us in the league at present (and one below this week!).

Although Jules111 was being ironic when he titled this thread, it has drawn the usual negativity from the Pardew haters. I really can't understand why fans should have such a jaundiced outlook.
We're in the premier league, we've got some realły classy players, it feels like we're developing year by year and that we could about to take off. There's stability and competence in the boardroom, a relatively young and talented manager who works well with the Chairman. There's a commitment to redevelop our playing style. We've already seen glimpses of what a potent attacking formation we have in Townsend, Puncheon & Zaha with Benteke up front - the red & blue arrows. McArthur put in one hell of a commanding performance at Sunderland. Missing a leader? Certainly not. The togetherness of the team is clear to see. "The players hate Pardew" someone whinged. Of course they don't! It's just something dreamt up to feed a compulsive hate complex.
The future looks bright and no Pardew haters are going to dampen my enthusiasm.

No manager gets every transfer correct.

Strongly disagree with the treatment and sale of Jedi though, is having someone like him around the dressing room worth more than £4m? I'd say so, and it's not as if he was a far inferior back up player.

I agree, keeping Jedi in the squad as club captain instead of swapping for someone like Flamini, so far, like for like. Flamini hasn't done anything of note, maybe his experience in training, but surely the manager and coaches that's their responsibility. Did we really need the 4 mil?

Yannick, totally agree with. Sure, great guy, does a few good flicks, but his last season with us for whatever reason, wasn't his best and AT is a far better replacement.

We don't really know how the selling of Jedi panned out.

Maybe he expressed a strong feeling that he wasn't happy to be on the bench all (most of) the time?

Maybe they discussed his place in the team and he simply decided his bread was buttered best by going?

I'm just saying that the decision for him to leave, whether we needed the £4m or not, may quite possibly have been out of of Pardew's hands.

Fully fit, you have to suspect Flamini would suit where we want to go better than Jedi.

Accept there are many areas where Jedi would be superior but question whether those are skills and attributes AP is prioritising.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

This.

I have no doubt that Jedi wants to be playing and his game time would've been limited this season.

Add to that the fact that you would want your captain on the pitch for just about every minute of every game I kinda understand why it was given to Dann - he'd certainly be my first name on the team sheet every week.

Overall, the right decision for both player & club..........probably.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!
