Get back to planning your £20 Pizza Express meal out and leave important stuff to the board. They know why they need to do it the way they are, just like SP knew we needed players yet AP though we were ok. That's the whole point you donut. They didn't chose to do it this way, they have been forced to do it this way by the coucil, residents, sainsburys ect

With tv money now days is that really the case. Look you have your opinions and I have mine. Regardless of what division we are in, our fans and the club deserve better facilities than what we currently have. As well as tv money, corporates is what gives you the edge. You can only spend so much more every year out of tv money. This season it was £12mil for everyone. Next year I don't know. If you think we should wait for tv money to increase to progress you really are as naive as I thought. We do deserve better but there are astute ways and then there's the rebuild and get relegated way we;ve seen so many times before.

Then stand knocked down and more seating put in, like Anfield. He also said that they have historic permission to build above the whitehorse another tier of seating. He did say they were talking to Sainsburies. What was interesting I thought was that he said that he wanted symmetry so the new Whitehorse would match the Holmesdale. At least the roof would. This would balance the overal look. He then said that the Arthur had yet to be worked out. Finally someone else who understands the situation. Whenever we do get permission to rebuild,it will because there will be a lot of mercenaries benefiting out of it.

You don't get the concept of construction planning do you? To get permission you need a plan, or plans, if 1st one is turned down. To get a proper plan you need to hire surveyors and solicitors on several million pounds. And to do that you need to be sure you're not going to cancel the project, unless you don't mind wasting several millions.

Again, you don't get simple concepts. Minimising risk. Risk/reward, maximising investment. You're clueless and you're now boring the f**ing life out of me. You're either deliberately obtuse or it's a natural struggle for you. At least those who know they're limited have a chance with you around. Go to bed, jog on, anything.

As far as the Crystal Palace Park "plan," SP ruled that out some time ago due to overwhelming opposition from the Bromley Council and residents in that area, most of them very well endowed in the pocketbook. As soon as those "plans" were announced, the residents formed an lobbying group determined to keep Palace out. Therefore, it's useless to talk about that unless something changes radically. That residents group is even opposed to building a new Crystal Palace to replace the one that gave that area its name. They are the very definition of NIMBY. The 1924 Main Stand needs replacement badly. There are still wooden beams in the structure, which means the safety certificate for Selhurst requires a waiver. The Goldberg and Jordan regimes didn't own the ground, which made getting planning approval more difficult. An example of an old stadium being redeveloped is what happened with Fenway Park in Boston, originally built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1934 after a fire. When the present ownership (John Henry & Tom Werner, who now own Liverpool as part of Fenway Sports Group) took over in 2002, they hired an architect who laid out a ten year plan to rebuild Fenway in sections during the off season. There were several season in that 10 year period that the Red Sox were in the post season, which cut a month from the available time for construction. Palace would do well to follow that example, taking their time especially since the close season is shorter, even though it is in the summer months while baseball's is in the fall and winter. While the Main Stand lends itself to a Liverpool style rebuild, the Arthur Wait, also in need of major work, could be done over the span of two or three years. It might look funky for a while but the final result should be worth it. Edited by kenbarr (21 Apr 2016 8.15am)

In regard to any opposition (NIMBYs) to SP redevelopment, from a civic point of view, I think there is a strong case to argue for the ground's rehabilitation. Can these people honestly say that the current facility is preferable to a new stadium? It's not as if there is an effing flora and flora reserve there at present! It's a frigging eyesore! Having a home next to an EPL standard stadium as opposed to what is currently there seems a no-brainer to me. Also, as far as lobby groups and lobbying goes, I'd put my money on a group composed of CPFC supporters against a bunch of troglodite tossers any day.

Parchmore, the NIMBY I was referring to were the ones at Crystal Palace Park, not the residents of Whitehorse Lane, Park and Holmesdale roads. they also have mounted opposition to any redevelopment of Selhurst Park claiming they would be deprived of "sunshine." Judging from what I've read on the web, those concerns are being addressed through a series of meetings between the club and the residents groups. CPFC2010 seem to have a better relationship with community that either Noades, Goldberg or Jordan Brothers. Dominic Jordan outright insulted them, which any politician will tell you is not a great way of winning friends and influencing people (my source is the late Ron Greatorex, who D. Jprdan fired as Chief Steward over refusing to pay him in a timely manner). Whatever you think of the residents, they vote in Croydon Council and Parliamentary elections in the constituencies that surround SP. How many Palace fans do that? A great many come from outside the area and vote elsewhere. remember, the two rules in elective politics are: 1. Get elected. 2. Stay elected. If it could be demonstrated that Palace supporters could decisively affect the councillors and MPs ability to hold office, that would move things along. Charlton supporters were able to do that by forming The Valley Party back in the 1990s, which may be the last time they won anything.

Still on the topic of stadium re-development, but on a slightly different theme, I was wondering about the old issue of what capacity a re-developed stadium should be. Should we read anything into the fact that a week before the FA Cup semi we still hadn't sold all of 32,000 allocation? Perhaps that is because a number of fans can't be bothered with the Cup, or don't like the idea of the Semi-Final being played at Wembley. But it has got me thinking as to how likely it would be that we would fill a 35,000 seater stadium, let alone a 40,000 seater. Yes, possibly for the visits of the big names, but what about games against Stoke or Swansea ( and that's assuming we are still in the Premier). I'd be interested to know at the moment, with our 25,000 limit, how many matches are completely sold out, and how many more tickets could have been sold if the stadium was larger. I appreciate that their needs to be room for ambition and the possibility that on-going success might bring greater demand. But, in the short to medium term, I really cannot see how we are going to regularly fill a 35,000 to 40,000 seater ground. Anyone like to re-assure me that we could?

The locals are bound up in their own bitterness of the park's past development, and their parking spaces. They detest the tower block that was built in there and clearly do NOT care about the rundown of the NSC or the minimalist attention paid to the park. If they had thought about it they could have asked for a annual contribution from the club towards improvement of the park for say 25 years or longer but....
Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013 |
