Political Correctness originated in the early 70's in the US. Another Americanisation.

Would rather be influenced by Europe.

A very intelligent post.

It is true that there is nothing new about manipulating minds but as a population living in the information drenched world of the 21st century we must be less inclined to be accepting of any fashionable or agenda driven nonsense we are fed.

The so called PC culture is just a small part of a greater conspiracy which goes way beyond genuine moral guidance. On one level, it is the chatter of the easily lead who have been indoctrinated on an intellectual level. Ultimately it is driven by the sophistry of the men in the shadows who pull the strings and have the power and wealth.

Paranoid? You decide.
Truthfully. I don't really spend too much time worrying about any of this stuff but it is how I see it.

This.

Time to move forward together.

It's roots are in Communism, not ''Americanism'', so you/we are being influenced by Europe.

I was discussing this in the Chestnut Tree Cafe only the other day.....

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I do believe you are referring to 'mind control' which is related. Having said that, communism hater Hitler had a bit of a head-start on on The Great Leader et al in that department.

Everyone is indoctrinated or socially conditioned or socially engineered though. Its how societies exist and function. Its generally the case that people associate such terms to ideas they don't agree with as indoctrination (whether they're lefties blaming the Right Wing Media or Right wingers blaming Political Correctness).

I used to think that there was some kind of shadowy cabal who ran the world, like the Illuminati, and maybe even other similar groups contesting their power. However as I've got older, I think that's wishful thinking, and that whilst there are people with great influence, the truth is a more scary reality, which is that no one is actually in control.

Its roots are in 70s feminist theory. The basis of the political correctness movement stems from Sociology - Notably the early Social Constructionist movement and the schism within social sciences from observber-participent bias. You can't have Political Correctness without discourse analysis.

Foucault is probably as communist close as it gets.

Vygotsky, the great studier of language acquisition and educationalist was part of the social constructivist movement.

Sure he said people's opinions of the workd are shaped by the language they hear in whatever social situation.

In fairness, his influence on psychology largely was in the 70s following his 'rediscovery' in the West. Interestingly he was very ahead of his time, already focused on what would be the 'crisis in social science'. I think really for his work to be appreciated, social sciences needed to adapt the schism or crisis, that came with post-modernism and the establishment the rise of social constructionist theory and discursive psychology.

My kind of Marxist.

I'm not so sure.

They don't have to meet behind closed doors like Spectre. Alliances and the sharing of objectives can be on a much looser basis and influence lots of subordinates through fear and incentive alike. Those objectives are then brought to bear on the wider public.

It's really easy for a handful of people to influence millions using various institutions and good old propaganda.
