He seems alright but would frankly prefer Austin - who we could still get if we hold out. I sincerely hope there is not a massive fee for Wickham - he seemed to not be played as a striker in many of the Sunderland games I saw. We could do with an out-and-out goalscorer in my opinion.

Murray's a goner

I really can't see Murray being sold. Wickham is still a young man who is still learning his trade! For me there is no better player to learn learn from than muzza.

I can see this being a really good signing for Palace.

@SkySports_Keith: Sky Sources: We understand the fee agreed between Palace and Sunderland for striker Connor Wickham is £9m including add-ons.

Not a bad gamble at this price. The only time sunderland played him upfront he scored 5 in 5 and kept them up the season before last. Has potential I think.

I don't get this I would rather keep Murray. I think it because he is young and mouldable. He is fast as well. We will have to wait And see. Maybe Murray wants out.

Amazes me how arrogant fans can become after a little bit of success. Wickham is young, hungry and talented. Two years ago we would've been delighted with this signing. We should all be delighted now, and shows again a massive sign of positivity and intent.

Is bang on the money.play murray out wide and he would no have scored half the goals he did.
I think played in the middle he will become a cult hero at palace.
Think Syd summed it up perfectly.

£9M including add-ons sounds about right but I can't see how he can be worth more than he was when Sunderland bought him given his goalscoring record. If the initial fee before add-ons is 6 or 7M it could be a good signing. Didn't realise he was so young, it seems like he has been around for ages.

Very good signing. Young, plenty of potential to develop further and on his day, an absolute beast. When he's good, he's very, very good. He's played in an awful side that has employed often negative tactics due to always being in a relegation battle, that has little creativity and even less confidence...about the worst set up he could have had at the development stage of his career. He's have been better to stay at Ipswich a couple of years longer.

Put him in a Palace shirt with the Holmesdale behind him and Cabaye, Puncheon, Wilf, Yala et al supplying him and mark my words, it'll be a different story. He's not moving from Sunderland; he's being emancipated. If Wickham fulfils even 75% of his potential, his value could easily double by next summer.

What I think we're seeing is what Americans would call the introduction of a "rotation system" up front. We've clearly decided not to go for the one, big-name, multi-million pound main man (Austin, Adebayor, or whoever) and instead, probably based on current form, deploy a combination of Gayle, Murray, Chamakh, Bamford and Wickham according to the opposition and how they're playing at the time. Next summer, assuming we push on this season, we'll be in better position to pursue a bigger name target with the new TV money at our disposal.

This move makes sense on all levels. It has a very high upside and at his best, Wickham gives us a forward who could be a key player for many years. Very happy.

Agree totally with your comments. All the doubters will regret their views.

Far better option than Austin who has a hole in his knee and had one good injury free season, but could get a knee injury then he is finished. No club has met the £15m asking price ever thought why?

We needed a big powerful forward it gives Pardew options, I expect Campbell to go, not Murray.

Really pleased about this. I've thought we should sign him for a while now. Great prospect and I think he could really kick on from here. Quick, really strong and tall, he could learn a lot from Murray as far as finishing and hold up play. Good signing if and when it happens. Although I don't know if Bamford is pleased.
