To highlight my point, Dame D'Doyle scored 5 in 15 for Hull and 6 in 26 for Senegal against the same teams Slimani scored his international goals. 27 in 66 for Lokomotiv Moscow. Ok Hull only paid like 3 or 4 million for him, but Slimani's goal scoring stats are better, he's younger and he plays in a better league.

Another view by an Algerian journalist this time. This one almost completely different suggesting what he offers defensive, aerially, physically and in holding the ball up skill almost makes him sound Palace Perfect. Some useful stats. Most worrying is that he seems to lack pace and only average at linking play. But scores highly on power and strength, and a pretty good finisher

How times have changed in recent years and how it feels weird with the shoe being on the other foot. for years & years weve watched from afar seeing mid-table PL clubs throw their magic beans at expensive players from inferior league in the hope they will turn out to be a star in the faster, more physical, more demanding PL. There are countless examples of strikers coming in from afar for somewhere in the region of £10+ only to be a dissapointment. Now its palace looking at spending this type of money on this type of player it makes me feel unesasy. You can point out his internation record of a goal every other gaem, well take a look at who those goals were scored against. 99% of them against bumphuk nowhere teams. Yes he has scored goals in portugal but again, against who? you could point out we have already started spending big money on players like wickham/cabaye/dann(wages). but we already knew what those players can do, they were tried & tested in this league and to a certain extent were "no brainers" when it came to the deals we offered. I admit ive only seen slimani play a few games, and he looks ok, but £15 ok? nah not really. There must be a striker in england/spain/italy/germany who would cost similar to slimani but already have big league experience. The thought of us taking a punt at that price, on that player makes me feel quite uneasy. I would rather we signed andy carroll from WHU. Why would you write the player off? There are more teams than just us looking at him. Wilfried Bony was signed from Ducth football, Michu was playing in the second tier in Spain for most of his career and had one season in La Liga for Rayo Vallecano. Yes Slimani isnt in the most competitive league but niehter was Henrik Larsson and he went from Celtic to Man Utd to Barca, if they are good enough then they are good enough

I think it makes perfect sense to send your scouts to the guys doing it in lesser leagues and then decide if you want to take a punt of if they can replicate it at Premier League level. Transfers for the last few years across all premier league teams and a quick look at the top goal scorer list for this season is proof that it doesn't matter where you were scoring your goals last season.

To those who replied to m post..thanks, decent constructive debate is always good. At no point have I written off slimani as a player, just pointed out how times change and how uneasy I feel with us taking a 15m gamble. Its all opinions but a club like palace you expect results for £15m. A gamble to me is what whu paid for sakho in 4.7m, or villa paid 7m for benteke, or indeed ourselves with roughly 4/5m on gayle. We paid £12 for cabaye...that wasn't a gamble, we knew we were getting quality. I want to see us punch with the other teams our size, I just hope we don't end up with a van wolfswinkle or brown ideye.

Portuguese teams tend to do very well in europe considering they only have 3 big clubs. Right now benfica and porto have very good teams yet sporting are leading the league. This season slimani's put away 11 in 17.
